Park Walk | Tide Deck Tour

The design of the park's Pier 26 is inspired by the Manhattan shoreline that would have existed prior to Henry Hudson's 1609 expedition. The pier includes a series of ecological communities representing this native landscape, including from a woodland forest to the rocky tidal zone and the Hudson River itself. One of the most unique of these native coastal environments is a manufactured rocky tidal marsh, the Tide Deck which is located on the western end of the Pier. The Tide Deck and its marsh plants ebb and flood with our daily tidal cycle, and features many interesting habitat enhancements including tide pools. Take a socially distant tour on the Tide Deck walkway. Staff will talk about this special environment. Please note that COVID-19 safety precautions will be in place for this event.

Concert | Chicago-Born Soul Singer and Harmonium Player

This finely tuned tenor hints at his classical operatic training, and his regular musical and vocal diversions into Indo-Pakistani folk and classical style serve as indicators of his heritage. But it is his deep love for retro-soul grooves that most clearly defines him as a protege following in the footsteps of sixties and seventies giants like Bobby "Blue" Bland and Sam Cooke, intentionally emphasizing that era's ethos of progressive politics and intersectional protest music with tracks like his hard-rocking anthem "Brown Power." Zeshan and his five-piece band will perform songs from his albums Melismatic and Vetted plus new music composed during the pandemic. Please note: They recommend arriving 20 minutes before the performance, and will begin seating standby guests 5 minutes before start time. While they'll do their best to accommodate as many guests as possible, they cannot guarantee admission. Please read below for important ticketing and C

Author Reading | What Is a Dog?: An Emotional Journey (virtual)

On the heels of her family’s beloved dog’s death, memoirist Chloe Shaw returns to the canines of her past in order to imagine the human she hopes to become in the future. Her old ways of “being the dog” in the face of hardship prove destructive, and it’s not until she’s able to love herself and learn from the dogs of her past and present that can she truly thrive as a person, and show up for the family who needs her to be their person. With artful prose and a philosophical touch, Shaw takes us on an emotional journey anyone who has ever loved and lost a dog will connect with—and discovers dogs do more than just make our lives better—they quietly (and sometimes loudly) pull us boldly toward the person we were always meant to be.
