One of the oldest free weekly events in Manhattan is Dixieland Jazz with the Gotham Jazzmen, which happen at noon every Tuesday. Another example of an event that you can attend all year round on weekdays is Federal Reserve Bank Tour, which takes place every week day at 1 pm (but advanced reservations are required). You can take at least 13 free tours every day of the year, except the New Year Day, July 4th, and the Christmas Day. If you are classical music afficionado, you can spend whole day in New York going from one free classical concert to another. If you love theater, then New York gives you an option to attend plays and musicals free of charge, or at deep discount. You just need to have information about it. Concert | Piano Concert Outdoors


Piano concert series, showcasing ragtime, stride, and jazz pianists. Today: For seven years, Frank Owens was music director for NBC TV's Showtime at the Apollo. Owens has played and conducted abroad, including the conducting A Fourth of July Celebration of American Jazz, Pop and Broadway in Moscow. Owens was resident pianist at Mortimer's for over six years, and appeared several times a year at the Hotel Carlyle's Bemelman's Bar. He appeared at the Blue Note with Ruth Brown of Broadway's Black and Blue, having arranged and conducted her album, Fine and Mellow.

Open Mike | Jamaica Mic Drop: Spoken Word, Poetry, Music, and More


The Jamaica Center for Arts & Learning will host Jamaica Mic Drop. This roughly two-hour live event will offer the public opportunities to express themselves via music, spoken word, poetry, and other forms of creativity. Plus, local vendors will pop up to sell their products. Jamaica Mic Drop will take place in the—the full block between Archer and Jamaica avenues on Parsons Boulevard—starting at 5 pm on each night. Concert | The Pan-Latin Tradition of Cumbia Music


The three brothers who drive this marimba-driven cumbia combo polished their chops as street musicians in Mexico City, perfecting a raucous and modern reinvention of the genre that draws from ska, rockabilly and punk. The result is a sound that straddles old and new, distinctly danceable and entirely accessible for younger audiences unfamiliar with the rich Pan-Latin tradition of cumbia music.They have since achieved success on the global music festival scene, particularly in Chile. The band will perform a set of rambunctious, high-energy songs from their recently released debut LP, named after and inspired by their late father and bandleader, Batuco. Please note: They recommend arriving 20 minutes before the performance, and will begin seating standby guests 5 minutes before start time. While they'll do their best to accommodate as many guests as possible, they cannot guarantee admission.

Movie in a Park | The Opera House (2017): Oscar Nominee's Documentary On The Creation of The Met Opera


The Opera House, by Oscar nominee and Emmy winner Susan Froemke, is a documentary about the creation and 1966 opening of the Metropolitan Opera at Lincoln Center. Drawing on rarely seen archival footage, stills, and recent interviews, it looks at an important period of the Met's history and delves into some of the untold stories of the artists, architects, and politicians who shaped the cultural life of NYC in the '50s and '60s.
