Dance Performance | Company at the Vanguard of American Modern Dance and Tap Dancing

The Limon Dance Company, the living legacy of dance theater, will perform two repertory classics: "Air for the G String" and a Suite from "The Winged". Air for the G String: Created by Doris Humphrey in 1928, Air for the G String is a sculptural dance set to Bach's Orchestral Suite No. 3 in D Major. "[Air for the G String] one of the most breathtaking performances. Beauty was everywhere, in every gesture of every draped fold of the women's robes." -- The New York Times The Winged: Through movement that resembles the intricate patterns and rhythms of birds in flight, The Winged transports you to a world of nature that blends with the world of man. Choreographed by Jose Limon in 1966, the piece possesses an unmatchable sense of beauty and breath. "'The Winged' is a marvelous work, both spacious and delicate - a distillation of what it means to float, to flutter, to soar." -- The Washington Post The performance includes Music From the Sole, which will present excerpts from existing and in-progress works, exploring their identity as both a dance company and a band, embracing that tap dance is both dance and music. Their performance honors tap's jazz and improvisational roots, and features original tap music that incorporates influences from Afro-Brazilian, Afro-Cuban, funk, and house.

Play | Iron John: An American Ghost Story (livestream)

Welcome to the little Southern town of Good, Alabama. It’s wild, woodsy, down-home…and very, very haunted. One hundred years ago, a love triangle ended in an act of racist violence that seems to repeat in every generation—until now. This dark and lyrical tale pits good old-fashioned American denial against the redemptive power of facing your truth.
