Tour | Amsterdam: Trading on Tolerance (virtual, live stream)

Amsterdam was a powerful and pragmatic trading town. International trade meant the meeting of different values and cultures. So the town often tolerated things they didn't agree with. Don't be fooled into thinking this was ultraism, it wasn't a 'celebration of diversity' by any means; it was definitely a 'putting up with differences'. When people went too far, they paid the ultimate price. The Dutch have famously tolerated prostitution (Red Light District), Catholics (Hidden Churches) and cannabis (Coffeeshops) when all those things were illegal. They rather harshly did NOT tolerate people endangering trade. Take a walk around the very old historic centre: the Old Church/Red Light District (N.B. it is illegal to show women in windows) / Zeedijk / Nieuwmarkt. The stories are interesting and the scenery is superb.

Author Reading | Ladyparts: A Memoir by a Bestselling Author (virtual)

Bestselling author Deborah Copaken launches her honest and unflinching new memoir. Part cautionary tale, part dystopian tragicomedy, Ladyparts is Copaken's irreverent inventory of both the female body and the body politic of womanhood in America. With her journalist's eye, her novelist's heart, and her performer's sense of timing, she provides a frontline account of one woman brought to her knees by the one-two-twelve punch of divorce, solo motherhood, lack of healthcare, unaffordable childcare, shady landlords, her father's death, college tuitions, sexual harassment, corporate indifference, ageism, sexism, and just plain old bad luck.
