Attend a unique celebration of the Afro-Venezuelan tradition of honoring San Juan. Participate in a "walking procession": the collaborative ritual of dancing and singing to the beat of drums. The Festival of San Juan was originally a communal practice by enslaved people in the cocoa and coffee plantations in the Caribbean coasts of Venezuela. Though it has been celebrated in Venezuela for hundreds of years and celebrates the summer solstice and the birth of Saint John the Baptist, modern participation in San Juan often acts as a statement of self and pride. This recentering of San Juan in New York City is led by Willie Quintana, director of the Brooklyn musical collective Tambor y Cana. By bringing together historical touchstones, national affiliation, and personal identity, Tambor y Cana acts as a catalyst for a meaningful appreciation of and fresh engagement with Afro-Venezuelan culture.

Dance Performance | Outdoor Dance Workshop + Performance: Movement, Music, & Storytelling on the Plaza
Celebrating 20 years of Dances for a Variable Population and the work of founder Naomi Goldberg Haas, this performance features legendary choreographers, older adult, and the multigenerational dancers of DVP. DVP presents a performance bringing the vibrant history of New York City's older residents to life through movement, music, and storytelling. Attend the All Together Dance Workshop at 5pm. Performance at 6pm.

Poetry Reading | Poetry & Musical Performances Exploring Movement & Bodies in Motion
Attend La Casita, a citywide festival celebrating global oral traditions, poetry, and music, grounded in the principle that New York City is more fully represented through the sweep of artistic traditions found throughout the five boroughs. This summer’s forward-looking theme is "Movement/Bodies in Motion," curated by Gabriel Ramirez, Rich Villar, Mahogany L. Browne, and Claudia Norman. Hosted by boricua poet Elisabet Velasquez, the event will feature readings from Ethiopian-American poet Hiwot Adilow, Black Mexican-American poet Irene Vásquez, Grand Slam winner Marcus Stokes, and Bronx Poet Laureate Kay Poema. La Casita will also showcase musical performances by Nigerian-American Kingsley Ibeneche and, straight from Queens, norteño music and dance by Suspenso del Norte. Dancing | Tango Dancing in the Park, All Levels Welcome
Local and international dancers and spectators meet for an unforgettable evening. The atmosphere is casual, inviting everyone to enjoy the music, the dance, and the romantic setting of the park at sunset. It's an experience you won't want to miss! Beginner lessons start around 7:00 PM, open to all. All levels welcome, from beginners to experts. No partner needed. The dance floor is paved with stones, so wear comfortable shoes. The Tragedy of Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare, directed by Stephen Burdman, is presented outdoors in a free, open-air production. The play examines the fragile balance between loyalty and ambition as a group of senators conspires to prevent a feared tyranny, only to unleash unrest and instability. As alliances fracture and public tensions rise, Shakespeare's exploration of power, persuasion, and responsibility unfolds with striking contemporary relevance. Jazz | Music Festival: Improv Inspired by Korean Music & Contemporary Jazz
This concert is part of Poland's leading jazz and improvised music festival, Jazztopad! This performance features the acclaimed Korean gayageum virtuoso DoYeon Kim and other improvisers. She is joined by bassist John Hebert and drummer Satoshi Takeshi-two deeply responsive and attuned collaborators to DoYeon's compositional language and improvisational style. Kim bridges Korean traditional music, contemporary jazz structural elements, and open-form improvisation. There are two ways to access this event: 1. General Admission, first-come first-served. Dance Performance | Trsnfixing Flamenco Solo with Live Music
See the New York Premiere of The Disappearing Act, which explores flamenco’s roots, shining a light on the Afro-descendant populations in southern Spain who shaped the genre. Born in London to a family from Ghana and Jamaica, British flamenco artist Yinka Esi Graves’ travels to Andalusia to study the art form exposed her to a wide array of cultures, an experience this performance brings vividly to life. In this transfixing solo with live music, Graves transforms the act of disappearing into a moving artistic gesture.
