Free Events, Free Things to Do in New York City!  Read More

225 free concerts take place New York City right now! In addition, Club Free Time members get free tickets to the concerts which are not free for general public, but are free for our members: when a producer wants that special buzz of the 'full house' at a concert - Club Free Time members are welcomed for their enthusiasm and sophistication! All they have to do is to login to www.clubfreetime.com and make a reservation.

As for the plethora of free concerts which take place in NYC year round, on weekdays and weekends, during lunch time, late afternoons and various evening hours: many people think that free concerts take place in NYC only during Summer, but nothing can be further from the truth.

Here are the numbers so you could see for yourself: about 1000 free concerts take place in NYC from mid-September to the end of May; and about 600 free concerts take place during the three Summer months (that 600 number excludes June's Make Music New York as on that single day more than 400 free concerts take place in NYC to celebrate Solstice).

As the number of free concerts per a summer month almost doubles the number of free concerts per month during other three seasons, you sure hear more about Summer free concerts.

In addition, Summer free concerts get more publicity, as such major popular concert series as New York Philharmoinic in the Parks, Metropolitan Opera Recital Series, Summer Stage and Celebrate Brooklyn all take place during summer months.

In addition, it's of course lots of fun to spend your lunch or your evening listening to the music you love and to picnic along, but your soul needs those nourishing sounds during other seasons as well.  So keep in mind that in New York City you can attend a free concert practically any day of the year, except maybe such major Hollidays as July 4th, Thanksgiving and the Christmas Day.

So please keep in mind that whether it's a weekday or a weekend, a holiday or just a regular day or a weekday night, you can alwasy count on Club Free Time when you want to listen to your favorite music, free of carge.

Concert | Radical Brazilian Pop Band Os Mutantes: Psychedelic, Tropicália, and Protest Music

Though initially only rarely heard outside of Brazil, Os Mutantes is currently acknowledged as among the most dynamic, original, radical, and influential bands of their era. These brash musical experimentalists engaged distortion, feedback, sampling techniques and a prescient selection of studio tricks to create a lighthearted, playful, yet still extreme Brazilian pop. An integral part of the psychedelic, Tropicália and protest movements, Os Mutantes combined unbridled guitars, traditional rhythms, an optimistic vision of the future, and an advanced melodic sensibility. Now, nearly 60 years removed from their founding, Os Mutantes’s approach to sonic collage and a wry tendency toward cultural irony ushered in a near-universal modern music aesthetic.  There are two ways to access this event: 1. Concert | Celebration of Afro-Brazilian Choro Music

Meet up with the New York-based Brazilian choro and samba ensemble Regional Samauma for a celebration of the sounds of Brazil through the potent group music-making gathering known as a Roda de Choro! Choro references a rich repertoire that dates back nearly two centuries and represents the fusion of Afro-Brazilian traditions with classical sonorities and dance forms from European culture. Initially developed in the post-slavery Rio de Janeiro in the late 1800s, choro remains a fundamental driving force for the contemporary expression of Brazilian culture. For this event, Regional Samauma presents a two-part Roda de Choro, beginning with a historical journey across 150 years of choro styles, incorporating maxixe, Brazilian polka and tango, samba, lundu, and baiao. In the second part, they invite the audience to participate in a semi-improvisational performance. Bring your own instrument and join in the fun with a few choro tunes! 5:00-6:00 pm: Presentation of choro music by Regional Samauma 6:00-6:30 pm: Participatory Roda de Choro Seating is first-come first-served. Concert | Music in the Park: Eclectic Artists with Giant Talents

Jazz royalty and disco pioneer, Asha Puthli returns to the stage after a 19 year hiatus. Known for her award-winning vocals on Ornette Coleman’s “Science Fiction” album, the music pioneer has released twelve albums, was a favorite at Studio 54 and placed by Andy Warhol in his time capsule. Her cult classic “Space Talk” was a mainstay at the Paradise Garage and The Loft, sampled by A-list hip-hop artists and launched into space!  For years Cymande was a flame that burned quick but bright; the group, which drew its membership from several Caribbean nations, mixed funk, soul, reggae, rock, calypso, and jazz with African rhythms into a sound they dubbed “nyah-rock.” After releasing three albums between 1971-1974, they disappeared until reforming to tour in the 2010s. They’ll be performing their classics and their brand-new 2025 album Renascence. Zacchae’us Paul is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, and producer with a fresh and irreverent take on Black music and the African diaspora, stretching and bending jazz around Atlanta hip-hop, gospel sounds and philosophies, and the Caribbean rhythms he picked up studying in Puerto Rico. Spinning tunes between sets is DJ K.Tea, an NYC-based DJ from St. Louis and Chicago who crafts sonic journeys that inspire freedom, dance, and discovery within house music.  Doors open at 5:00 pm.

Concert | Music in the Park: Legendary Activist Musicians

Femi Kuti started the band, the Positive Force, bringing his brand of Afrobeat that fuses funk, jazz, and highlife, around the world. In 2001, he collaborated with a number of US musicians on his album Fight to Win, including Common, Mos Def, and Jaguar Wright; in 2021, he released a two-album project with his son Made Kuti called Legacy+. His latest LP Journey Through Life balances the political themes that have defined his career with deeply personal reflections on family, life, and inner growth. Also performing is dead prez, the infamous hip-hop duo with an instantly recognizable hit (“Hip-Hop,” famously used as the bed track on Chappelle’s Show) and a legacy of calling out inequality and injustice throughout their career. Across three studio albums and a handful of mixtapes, they’ve championed militant social justice, self-determination, Pan-Africanism, and opposing corporate media. Cape Verdean singer and songwriter Elida Almeida, known for her viral single and album Nta Konsigui, will round out the evening. DJing between sets will be Rich Medina, the DJ, producer, spoken-word poet, archivist, and journalist who claims both the Rock Steady Crew and the Universal Zulu Nation and is a part of the DJ collective The Originals; in 2001 he created the “JUMP N FUNK”, North America’s original Afrobeat party series celebrating Fela Kuti and the cultural legacy of Afrobeat music. Maryam Bukar Hassan, also known as Alhanislam, is a Nigerian poet, human rights activist, and Pan-Africanist renowned for her impassioned advocacy on social issues. Recognized as one of the 100 Most Reputable Africans for 2025 and as the UN’s next Global Advocate for Peace, Alhanislam continues to bridge activism with the power of spoken word, using her voice to inspire change on a global scale. For this centennial celebration of the Cuban "Queen of Salsa" Celia Cruz, three contemporary Cuban artists assemble to channel her spirit and honor her legacy. Isaac Delgado is a salsa singer from Havana who's performed with Orquesta de Pacho Alonso and NG La Banda. The singer, pianist, composer, and actress Aymee Nuviola--aka "La Sonera del Mundo"--is a decorated artist with multiple GRAMMYs and Latin GRAMMYs under her belt. She's also connected with Celia Cruz in a more literal sense, having played her in the Colombian telenovela Celia. Cuban singer and multi-instrumentalist Brenda Navarrete is an accomplished percussionist, distinguishing herself as an expert on the Bata. A long-standing member of Interactivo, a Havana-based musical collective led by the pianist Roberto Carcasses, she has also worked with the Afro-Cuban percussion troupe Obini Bata.

Sam Amidon is a singer and multi-instrumentalist (banjo, guitar, fiddle) from Vermont, US, now based in London, England. His new album "Salt River" was released in January. He has previously released seven acclaimed albums of songs. He has also recently finished work on the forthcoming film "History Of Sound," starring Paul Mescal and Josh O'Connor, wherein Amidon served as a consultant and musician.
