Talk | The Rise of the Metadata Warrior

Radical archivist Jason Scott, mascot of Archive Team and free-range archivist for a number of organizations, invites you to attend a call to arms and an outsider's perspective on the meaning of metadata, his layperson's journey to discovery of its importance, and his experiences bringing the power of raising an army of Folksonomy-wielding volunteers into a hardened army of classification and clarification. He'll be showing some of the projects he's been involved in that have benefited from this work, as well as ways to build a bridge between radically different outlooks, even if the bridge is in fact burning. Expect fast chatter and strange collisions of ideas as you learn exactly how to create a racing arcade game with no video screen, and what it means to face down one of the most amazing archiving machines in the world.
