Dance Performance | Table of Silence, a Dance Tribute to 9/11

100 dancers to present this public tribute to 9/11 and prayer for peace. Table of Silence is a poetic call for tolerance and peace through silence, music, and movement, by acclaimed choreographer Jacqulyn Buglisi. Dancers will come from different directions in a procession to form a labyrinth of peace, symbolizing eternity, purity and the continuous life cycle. Each dancer will embrace a single terracotta plate. The plates represent a symbolic banquet table uniting humanity, where silence is needed for dialog, the idea created by artist Rosella Vasta.

Theater | Street Theater Company's Bamboozled, or The Real Reality Show

A rip-roaring musical which will tour City streets, parks and playgrounds. The production, free to all New Yorkers, will have book, lyrics and direction by Crystal Field and musical score composed by Joseph Vernon Banks. A lowly postman is overwhelmed by the tsunami of unhappiness he is carrying: pink slips, layoffs, businesses closings, Medicare terminations, hospital closings, teacher terminations and condolences sent to the Japanese. The past wars of this planet haunt him and the present wars torment him further. Merlin the Magician appears out of a Christmas card to enlighten him about the Faustian contract we have made with Nuclear Energy. The hero is redeemed by the vision of a cleaner, more harmonious planet lying in the alternative power of the Sun, the Wind and the unfailing power of the people.

Film | Woody Allen's Oscar-Nominated Manhattan (1979): Neurotic New Yorkers in Love

With Woody Allen, Mariel Hemingway and Diane Keaton. After his wife leaves him for another woman, Isaac Davis leaves his day job as a television writer and begins dating Tracy, a precocious 17-year-old. But he soon begins to fall for his best friend’s mistress. Allen’s rhapsodic love letter to New York is undoubtedly his most romantic—thanks to a larger-than-life Gershwin score, Gordon Willis’ radiant black-and-white cinematography, and no shortage of classic Manhattan locales, including the MoMA, Elaine’s, the Hayden Planetarium, and the iconic shot of the 59th Street Bridge. 96 min. Dance Performance | 9/11 Commemoration with the Orchestra of St. Luke’s, Paul Taylor Dance Company and Limon Dance Company

To commemorate the 10th Anniversary of September 11, 2001, this special presentation will feature performances by OSL with Paul Taylor Dance Company; the Limón Dance Company with Voices of Ascension; and additional artists to be announced. The program also will include a new work created by Jessica Lang. Limón Dance Company and Voices of Ascension will perform José Limón’s 1958 Missa Brevis, which features music by Zoltán Kodály composed at the end of World War II during the siege of Budapest. Limón's stirring choreography depicts an indomitable humanity rising up after near destruction. The work, a memento to cities destroyed during World War II and to those unconquerable qualities that permit hope to survive, perfectly reflects the spirit of this commemorative event. OSL and The Paul Taylor Dance Company will present Brandenburgs, Paul Taylor’s 1988 uplifting masterwork set to Johann Sebastian Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos Nos. 3 and 6. The work displays Taylor’s special affinity for the music of Bach—also seen in such works as Esplanade, Musical Offering and Promethean Fire.
