Bow Echo, created by Bessie Award-winning choreographer Anna Sperber, is a work for four dancers, who move as both individuals and ensemble, continually shaping and reshaping the space between them. Oversized sculptural elements--including flags, bells, and panels of marley--become extensions of the choreography, generating sound and forming striking visual architectures. Set in an open-air environment, Bow Echo expands beyond the stage, merging body, object, and atmosphere into a living field of resonance--where movement becomes structure, and structure becomes echo.

Opening Reception | Robert Moskowitz, Myron Stout: Dual Artist Painting Exhibition Meditating on Repetition & Refinement

This is an exhibition of paintings by Robert Moskowitz and Myron Stout. Though they belonged to different generations, there are parallels between Robert Moskowitz and Myron Stout. They each divided time between New York and historic artist communities—Stout in Provincetown with Hans Hofmann, Lee Krasner, Helen Frankenthaler, and Robert Motherwell; Moskowitz on Cape Breton Island with Joan Jonas, Philip Glass, Richard Serra, and Robert Frank. Myron Stout developed a style that bridged Abstract Expressionism with the anticipation of Minimalism, but existed outside of both. Robert Moskowitz was a prominent figure of the 1970s New Image Painters group that arose out of the same movements, yet his own painting style also defied easy categorization. Both artists are perhaps more readily defined by their slow, almost obsessive practices of repetition and refinement—an almost ascetic approach to painting that allowed them to find meaning within their own simplified vocabularies.

Concert | Stevie Wonder-Collaborator & More Light Up the Stage with Hip-Hop & R&B in the Park

This concert features SHABAKA, who has spent much of the past decade pushing the boundaries of contemporary jazz with different groups. But, in recent years, the artist and bandleader has retreated from the saxophone and into a more meditative space, exploring experimental and ambient sounds for his 2023 solo debut, Afrikan Culture. For his latest LP, Of The Earth, Shabaka pivots once again, writing, performing, producing, and mixing the album entirely on his own. The result is a project he is bringing to the stage that integrates the expansive diversity of his past work and his return to the saxophone, including the hip-hop and R&B influences. He's joined by Kokoroko, the London-based septet led by Sheila Maurice-Grey and Onome Edgeworth that strives to connect young people in the African diaspora through a fusion of funk and highlife; and Omar MBE, UK Soul legend who has collaborated and performed with Common, Erykah Badu, Leon Ware, Stevie Wonder, etc.

Book Discussion | Library of Congress History Scholar Shares His New Book on the Declaration of Independence

Author Michael Auslin discusses his book, National Treasure: How the Declaration of Independence Made America. This book is the story of the Declaration and the first to take readers from its drafting by Thomas Jefferson to today—charting the many lives of a document that captures the soul of America and has united generations around its defiant ideals. As Jefferson had hoped, the principles enshrined in the Declaration became a beacon to the world. But what lessons should we take from it today? Can this statement of ideals in whose name the signers pledged their lives and sacred honor bring a disparate nation together? Auslin reminds readers that this enduring document was not just a call for freedom and equality but an eloquent statement of the principles that bind us together. Michael Auslin is the Payson J. Treat Distinguished Research Fellow at Stanford University’s Hoover Institution. Previously, he was an associate professor of history at Yale. He wrote National Treasure as a Distinguished Visiting Scholar at the Library of Congress’s John W. Kluge Center and an American Heritage Partners Fellow at the Society of the Cincinnati’s American Revolution Institute.
