A new book examines the polices and processes that have allowed such pieces to be erected. Focusing on people, agencies and organizations, and both temporary and permanent projects from the 1960s forward, Michele H. Bogart reveals the changing forms and meanings of municipal public art. Bogart will discuss her research with columnist Mark Byrnes, examining issues and themes from her book Sculpture in Gotham: Art and Urban Renewal in New York City.

He was appointed under President Theodore Roosevelt as US consul in Venezuela and Nicaragua for most of the period from 1906 to 1913. In 1934 he was the first African-American professor to be hired at New York University. Please read the book before arriving at the book discussion.
