A deeply felt Mood Album” - Jazzthing, Germany  "A likably suave jazz singer...” - New York Times  “One of the most important artists today” - La Jornada, Jalisco, Mexico "Kaestli introduces things with an angular original, intelligently designed and tuneful. He finds a tense balance between innocent sweetness and the erotic that makes this reimagining achingly compelling" -AllAboutJazz

Book Club | Anne Tyler's Vinegar Girl

Kate Battista feels stuck. How did she end up running house and home for her eccentric scientist father and uppity, pretty younger sister Bunny? Plus, she’s always in trouble at work – her pre-school charges adore her, but their parents don’t always appreciate her unusual opinions and forthright manner. Dr. Battista has other problems. After years out in the academic wilderness, he is on the verge of a breakthrough. His research could help millions. There’s only one problem: his brilliant young lab assistant, Pyotr, is about to be deported. And without Pyotr, all would be lost. Pulitzer Prize winning Anne Tyler's “Vinegar Girl” is a retelling of “The Taming of the Shrew.” She has published 20 novels, the best known of which are Dinner at the Homesick Restaurant (1982), The Accidental Tourist (1985), and Breathing Lessons (1988).

Author Reading | From Selma to Moscow: U.S.-Middle East relations

In From Selma to Moscow, Sarah B. Snyder shows how domestic social movements spurred a form of activism that ultimately led to legislation to curb military and economic assistance to repressive governments, created institutions to monitor human rights internationally, and enshrined these values in U.S. foreign policy for years to come. Snyder examines the American response to repression in the Soviet Union, racial discrimination in Southern Rhodesia, authoritarianism in South Korea, and coups in Greece and Chile, providing lessons for current and future humanitarian and foreign policy crises. She will be in conversation with Craig Daigle, specialist on U.S.-Middle East relations during the Cold War at the City College of New York, with Q&A to follow.

Author Reading | Weight of the Earth: The Tape Journals of David Wojnarowicz

At the height of the AIDS epidemic, artist, writer, and activist David Wojnarowicz (1954–1992) began keeping audio journals, returning to a practice he'd begun in his youth. David Velasco's Weight of the Earth: The Tape Journals of David Wojnarowicz presents transcripts of these tapes, documenting Wojnarowicz's turbulent attempts to understand his anxieties and passions, and tracking his thoughts as they develop in real time. By turns despairing, funny, exalted, and angry, this volume covers a period largely missing from Wojnarowicz's written journals, providing a new record of a singular American voice.
