Discussion | NPR Music’s Turning the Tables Live: Music and Conversation Featuring Pop Star Carly Rae Jepsen

Last summer, NPR Music radically changed how we talk about the history of popular music with the publication of the 150 Greatest Albums Made By Women list and a live show celebrating those albums. This marked the beginning of the Turning the Tables project, a challenge to think bigger about music's past, present, and future by highlighting voices often relegated to its margins. This year, NPR's Turning the Tables Live: 21st-Century Edition shifts focus toward a new generation of artists claiming center stage. To celebrate, they present a night of music and conversation with Grammy-nominated, multiplatinum recording artist and singer-songwriter Carly Rae Jepsen; visionary Chicago R&B artist and poet Jamila Woods; Americana supergroup I'm With Her; and more. Music and conversation with: Carly Rae Jepsen Jamila Woods I’m With Her (Sara Watkins, Sarah Jarosz, and Aoife O'Donovan) and others to be announced Moderated by Ann Powers

Dance Performance | Dynamic Dance-Theater

Abraham.In.Motion (A.I.M) is a modern dance company whose mission is to create an evocative interdisciplinary body of work through a sensual and provocative vocabulary with a strong emphasis on sound, human behavior and all things visual. Born into hip-hop culture in the late 1970s and grounded in founder Kyle Abraham’s artistic upbringing in classical cello, piano, and the visual arts, the goal of the movement is to delve into identity in relation to a personal history. The company will perform a selection of pieces including "Strict Love," "The Quiet Dance" and "Drive." Founded in 2005 by Bessie Award winning choreographer Joya Powell, Movement of the People Dance Company is dedicated to addressing historic and present socio-cultural injustices through dance. Primarily a dance-theater company, their choreography combines dynamic contemporary dance with traditional dances, and develops a sensitive balance of pedestrian gestural phrases with grounded visceral movements that use breath and musicality at its core.
