Jazz | Piano in the Park: Singing Pianist with "Taste, Style, Charm"
Come on down and swing along to the best jazz music the Big Apple has to offer, with musician Daryl Sherman. “Taste, style, charm, singing, playing – as good as it gets!” - Michael Feinstein Daryl Sherman has been an integral part of the NYC jazz/cabaret scene since the mid-70s- and is one of the rare singing pianists equally talented in both roles. From early stints at Sinatra jazz hang-outs, Daryl also played most of the major NY hotels and became internationally acclaimed for a stellar 14-year run at the Waldorf-Astoria. She has performed and recorded with artists such as Wynton Marsalis, Artie Shaw, and Vince Giordano and The Nighthawks.

Bow Echo, created by Bessie Award-winning choreographer Anna Sperber, is a work for four dancers, who move as both individuals and ensemble, continually shaping and reshaping the space between them. Oversized sculptural elements--including flags, bells, and panels of marley--become extensions of the choreography, generating sound and forming striking visual architectures. Set in an open-air environment, Bow Echo expands beyond the stage, merging body, object, and atmosphere into a living field of resonance--where movement becomes structure, and structure becomes echo.

Jazz | American Chamber Works by Paul Simon, Dvorak, Coleridge-Taylor, & Others (Classical, Bluegrass, & More)
Celebrate Fourth of July weekend at a performance by the intrepid chamber orchestra The Knights--a self-described "fellowship of adventurous musicians" with a fervent following at Carnegie Hall and across New York City. Led by Colin Jacobsen and Eric Jacobsen, they bring a program that fuses classical music with numerous American influences in true "Knightsian" fashion. Hear arrangements of Bonds's "Troubled Water," based on the spiritual "Wade in the Water"; selections from Coleridge-Taylor's 24 Negro Melodies, arranged by violinist Curtis Stewart; Stones River by violinist Jeremy Kittel, which draws from a multicultural well of American Revolutionary and Civil War music; Colin Jacobsen's arrangement of Paul Simon's "American Tune," and other short works; a piece by Jacobsen inspired by Dvorak and bluegrass; and more. The Tragedy of Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare, directed by Stephen Burdman, is presented outdoors in a free, open-air production. The play examines the fragile balance between loyalty and ambition as a group of senators conspires to prevent a feared tyranny, only to unleash unrest and instability. As alliances fracture and public tensions rise, Shakespeare's exploration of power, persuasion, and responsibility unfolds with striking contemporary relevance. Akram Khan Company presents the U.S. premiere of Thikra: Night of Remembering. Thikra, meaning 'memory' or 'recollection' in Arabic, is deeply rooted in the power of rituals. With arresting visual design by Manal AlDowayan and Khan's signature choreographic style--weaving the Indian classical dance form of Bharatanatyam with contemporary--past and present converge in a journey to connect with ancestral knowledge. Imagined as an annual gathering, a tribe of women come together for one night only to awaken the spirits of those who came before them.
