Jazz | Jazz Live from Harlem: Positive Knowledge (in-person and online)

“Positive Knowledge” is a performance duo that features multi-instrumentalist Oluyemi Thomas (bass clarinet, saxophones and percussion) and Ijeoma Thomas (voice and percussion). Their compositions emerge from a long, intense, and ongoing involvement with American improvisational and jazz traditions, as reconfigured through their participation in the musical life of other cultures. Both performers have undertaken extended musical travels, in sub-Saharan and northern Africa, the Middle East, and South America (particularly Brazil), as well as Europe and North America. For many listeners, their performances themselves resemble a journey, though not to any known places. The works of “Positive Knowledge” undertake an ecstatic quest of the spirit, seeking the uncommon sounds of sense, correspondence, and borderless harmony. For this concert, the duo will be accompanied by bassist Hilliard Greene and drummer Pheeron akLaff.

Opening Reception | When Angels Speak of Love: Art That Repurposes Pantyhose

This exhibition features sculptures and installations repurposing women’s pantyhose into haunting forms. A story lies between each stitch, weave of the fabric, and unassuming garment. The consumerist nature of textiles often overshadows the darker and often violent narratives of the fabrics themselves. The nuances, histories, and perspectives of cloth are dismantled in an amalgamation of the exquisite works of Los Angeles’s Rebecka Jackson and South African artist Turiya Magadlela.

Park Walk | Tide Deck Tour

A guided tour of the Tide Deck for a unique river ecology experience. The design for pier is inspired by Manhattan’s natural shoreline prior to European colonization in the 17th century. The pier includes a series of ecological communities representing this native landscape, from a woodland forest to the rocky tidal zone and the Hudson River itself. One of the most unique of these native coastal environments is on the Tide Deck, which is an engineered rocky tidal marsh located on the western end of the pier. The Tide Deck ebbs and floods with our daily tidal cycle and features many interesting habitat enhancements including tide pools. Tours are offered every 30 minutes.

The sun has disappeared from the sky. No one can explain where it has gone, but one wayward traveler is determined to try. Oh God, the Sun Goes is David Connor's hallucinatory and deadpan picaresque that suddenly swerves into a love story of soaring poignance. Concert | Latin Music from Oscar Winning and Grammy Nominated Musicians (In a Park)

Academy Award winning singer-songwriter Jorge Drexler’s sound blends the traditional rhythms of his native Uruguay with samba, bossa nova, pop, jazz, ambient, and even EDM. His music is defined by wistful wordplay and sonic experimentation, often breaking down the materials of instruments like the guitar to create exciting new sounds. Also performing is Grammy-nominated Cimafunk, whose music infuses classical Cuban rhythms with afrobeat, funk, and hip-hop. Latin Grammy-nominated Uruguayan-Argentine singer Julieta Rada opens. About the Artists Jorge Drexler is an Uruguayan musician and singer-songwriter with a long professional career in music and performing arts.
