You can take at least 13 free tours every day of the year, except the New Year Day, July 4th, and the Christmas Day. The Festival Orchestra of Lincoln Center performs a moving program expressing the enduring power of a mother's love, across time. William Grant Still's Mother and Child opens the evening with a tender portrait of love and quiet devotion. The program continues with the U.S. premiere of Jessie Montgomery's These Righteous Paths, an exploration of the composer's journey through grief following the loss of her mother five years ago. Anchoring the program is Johannes Brahms's radiant Symphony No. 2, whose warm lyricism--including the beloved melody later known as "Brahms's Lullaby"--brings the evening to a deeply satisfying close. "Both segments of this Stroman premiere were thoroughly enjoyed by the audience [and] Isaac ben Ayala was exceptionally dazzling on piano." - NYC Ballet Review Isaac ben Ayala has performed and recorded with many notable bands and greats, from Quincy Jones, Ray Charles, Louis and Bellson, to the New York City Ballet and The Sultans of Swing. Bringing together voices from music, neuroscience, public health, and community practice, this event explores how collective singing can be understood not only as cultural expression, but as a scalable public health resource. Audiences are invited to reflect on how raising our voices together can help build healthier bodies, stronger relationships, and more connected communities. What if singing together were recognized as a shared health practice for individuals and communities? Collective singing is one of the most powerful wellbeing practices humans share. From lullabies and community choirs to spontaneous public song, singing together is a universal behavior linked to stress reduction, improved mood, social bonding, and physiological regulation. A growing body of research shows that group singing can support mental wellbeing, reduce loneliness, and strengthen social connection—protective factors central to World Health Organization (WHO) priorities for population health and noncommunicable disease prevention.  This event will begin with members of the Festival Orchestra of Lincoln Center playing selections from William Grant Still's Motherless Child and George Gershwin's Lullaby.

Clarissa, a bookish Victorian young woman, auditions a slew of suitors to save her family from financial ruin, while an unexpected romance with a socialite suffragette dares her heart to forge a brave new path. Through humorous, quippy banter and heartfelt confessions, the play touches on many pressing contemporary issues—including bodily autonomy, mental health visibility, multicultural equity and inclusion, and LGBTQ+ acceptance and legal protection—that resonate with contemporary New Yorkers. William Grant Still's Mother and Child opens the evening with a tender portrait of love and quiet devotion. The program continues with the U.S. premiere of Jessie Montgomery's These Righteous Paths, an exploration of the composer's journey through grief following the loss of her mother five years ago. Anchoring the program is Johannes Brahms's radiant Symphony No. 2, whose warm lyricism--including the beloved melody later known as "Brahms's Lullaby"--brings the evening to a deeply satisfying close. Classical Music | as yet untitled: Melodic, Rhythmic, & Energetic Original Composition


British percussionist Bex Burch’s as yet untitled is a composition-in-collaboration will feature rombonist and Arthur Russell collaborator Peter Zummo; Chicago connections drummer Mikel Patrick Avery and cellist Lia Kohl; and New York-based bassist Carmen Quill and saxophonist Gabriel Birnbaum. The performance weaves together threads from the major movements of Burch’s life, from her formative study of the Dagaare gyil (a type of xylophone central to the music of the Dagaare people of northwest Ghana and southern Burkina Faso) to communing with musicians and audiences in London, Chicago, New York and Berlin, where she now lives and works. A deeply embodied performer with a palpable, physical presence on her homemade xylophone, drums, bells, shakers, voice and various other instruments, Burch balances a disarming openness with focused intention. In as yet untitled, the melodic, rhythmic and energetic materials of the score provide the framework and trust for the improvisational, emotional structures that emerge from each group’s unique combination of members, all of whom sing in addition to playing their instruments. Lyrical multi-instrumentalist and composer Tomin will open the evening with a solo set for flute and sampler.
