In this powerful solo exhibition, interdisciplinary artist Sherrill Roland delves into the psychological toll of incarceration through sculptural works that reflect the extremes of life “inside”—from intimacy and isolation to institutional control and emotional estrangement. Drawing from his own experience of wrongful conviction, Roland transforms utilitarian prison fixtures into evocative forms that speak to forced proximity and fractured relationships.
A recipient of the 2025 USA Fellowship and numerous national awards, Roland has exhibited widely at major institutions including the Hammer Museum, the Studio Museum in Harlem, and the Nasher Museum of Art. His work is held in public collections across the U.S. and continues to challenge viewers to confront the human cost of the American criminal justice system.
