Nicolas Africano presents a solo exhibition in New York for the first time in over two decades, marking a major moment in the artist’s celebrated career. A key figure in the Whitney Museum's pivotal New Image Painting exhibition of the 1970s, Africano is known for his transition from poetic, text-embedded canvases to luminous figurative sculptures in cast glass, bronze, and marble.
Africano’s work is in the permanent collections of MoMA, the Whitney, the Met, and the Art Institute of Chicago. This exhibition offers a rare opportunity to view recent developments in his practice ahead of his major 2026 survey, After All.
