Classical Music | One of NYC's Most Exciting Chamber Orchestras and Its Widely-Praised Conductor

Parlando Orchestra distinguishes itself by integrating historical and cultural context into every performance. Founder-conductor Ian Niederhoffer, described by New York Classical Review as "charismatic, enthusiastic and articulate," leads the ensemble with a uniquely engaging approach. About the Piece In 1924, Austrian director Hugo Bettauer released a satirical film imagining a Vienna emptied of its Jewish population -- a dark comic warning drawn from the rhetoric of rising nationalist politicians. One year later, Bettauer was assassinated by a Nazi sympathizer who was acquitted and celebrated. Banned in 1933, the film nearly vanished until a pristine print surfaced at a Paris flea market in 2015. Parlando presents a live screening with orchestra of the newly restored Die Stadt ohne Juden (The City without Jews), featuring Olga Neuwirth's 2018 score -- a visceral, urgent work that transforms this century-old cautionary tale into an unsettlingly contemporary one.

Classical Music | 215 Years of Liszt: Piano Works

This concert celebrates the 215th anniversary of Franz Liszt's birth, with his works performed by pianist Michael Kaykov. In June 2026, Kaykov released Liszt: Complete Piano Music, a recording dedicated to the composer's complete piano works. At the heart of this concert is the idea that defined Liszt throughout his career: the piano as a meeting place for music, poetry, landscape, memory, friendship, and the wider world. Program: Franz Liszt (1811-1886) Chapelle de Guillaume Tell Franz Liszt (1811-1886)/Gaetano Donizetti (1797-1848) Nuits d'ete a Pausilippe Franz Liszt (1811-1886)/Hans von Bulow (1830-1894) Dantes Sonett Tanto gentile e tanto onesta von Hans von Bulow Franz Liszt (1811-1886)/Gioachino Rossini (1792-1868) Fantaisie sur des motifs de La pastorella dell'Alpi e Li marinari des Soirees musicales

Dance Performance | El Péndulo (The Pendulum): Immersive Improvisational Dance Reflecting Cultural Perspectives, from Collectivism to Individualism.

Throughout this interactive piece, dancers explore an array of movement ideas from a relational perspective, shifting between instances of connection and disconnection. While the dancers swing, suspend, sway, and vacillate, we invite the audience to stand or walk during the performance, observing the piece from varied perspectives. They are encouraged to get close to the performers, appreciate details, connect with the dancers, and become integral parts of the experience. This project stems from an idea that has become increasingly relevant in our current political climate. Historically, the ‘pendulum’ has swung incessantly from one dominant political perspective to the opposite. We look at the pendulum's opposite ends as reflecting our cultural perspectives, ranging from collectivism to individualism.
