Opening Reception | Animal Static: A Darkly Comic Interactive Exhibit Triggered by Motion Sensors

An interactive installation from multidisciplinary artist and performer Lex Brown, in which motion-sensors trigger the viewer’s own participation in a fractilinear, darkly comic landscape of language and geometry.

Brown’s cast of humorous characters draw us into an evolving, self-contained narrative circuit, presenting each of us with slips in reality that we’ve already begun to build into our everyday. As we race toward a horizon—on which a climate eclipse, a fully automated future, and identity null point appear to lie—will we find that horizon to be round and ever-receding, like the ever-receding satisfaction of a Netflix Binge, or that it is in fact a sharp corner, from which we’ll enter another plane of existence?

Lex Brown is an artist, musician, and writer. Her work plays with the scale of personal and emotional experience in relation to large scale systems of social and economic organization. She has performed and exhibited work at the the New Museum, the High Line, the International Center of Photography, and Deli Gallery in New York; REDCAT Theater and The Hammer Museum in Los Angeles; and at the Munch Museum in Oslo, Norway.
