Opening Reception | Hidden Forms: portrayal of elegant essence of New York City

Hidden Forms highlights Michele Telari's abstract and atmospheric renderings of the multiple narratives inherent in the cityscape. Whether his tight hyperrealistic paintings that explore cavernous streets of New York or his dripping watercolors that depict an urban environment drenched by rain, Telari portrays the elegant essence of the city. His work offers a dual view of New York-at once, the highly energetic city that never sleeps and a more somber, muted metropolis. In his watercolors such as Water Signs, his painterly hand drifts into abstraction as Manhattan's monumental landmarks such as the Empire State Building, the Brooklyn Bridge, and the Chrysler Building fade and transform into ethereal lines and monochromatic colors.

Salome of the Tenements is a now-lost classic of 1920s silent film, a tale of romance and struggle among Jewish immigrants on the Lower East Side.
