One of the oldest free weekly events in Manhattan is Dixieland Jazz with the Gotham Jazzmen, which happen at noon every Tuesday. Another example of an event that you can attend all year round on weekdays is Federal Reserve Bank Tour, which takes place every week day at 1 pm (but advanced reservations are required). You can take at least 13 free tours every day of the year, except the New Year Day, July 4th, and the Christmas Day. If you are classical music afficionado, you can spend whole day in New York going from one free classical concert to another. If you love theater, then New York gives you an option to attend plays and musicals free of charge, or at deep discount. You just need to have information about it. Tour | Hudson River Loop Walk 2017


The 6th Annual Hudson River Loop Walk is a one-day 30-mile walk along the Hudson bordering NYC and NJ. The official start is at the PATH station at Exchange Place, Jersey City where the walk begins north along a nearly continuous Hudson River Waterfront Walkway on the NJ side to the George Washington Bridge. Walking over the bridge we connect to the Hudson River Greenway trail heading south and ending at the World Trade Center. Take PATH train back to Exchange Place to get back to start.

An in-depth look at the unique architecture and exquisite beauty of the Alexander Hamilton U.S. Custom House. Designed by famed architect Cass Gilbert and completed in 1907, the Custom House is a National Historic Landmark. If you’d like to read, please email songofmyselfmarathon@gmail.com with your favorite three sections of “Song of Myself” (using the 1891-‘92 edition’s breakdown of 52 sections). Karen Karbiener be in touch with you as the event draws closer, to provide the final list of readers. Original interpretations of your passage are encouraged. Last year they had several folks give dramatic or musical interpretations of their passages; others recited from memory or in different languages. Dance Performance | Dance Work-in-Progress: Choreographer Tess Dworman


Performance Space 122’s Ramp residency program is designed to foster the creation of ambitious, new work from New York City-based emerging artists through space, time and invaluable technical resources. Each residency period culminates in free showings open to the public. Tess Dworman will use her week-long residency to experiment with merging very different kinds of choreographic and improvisational material to become part of the same world. She initiated the process with a collage-like structure that pins together brief self-contained dances and situations varying in representationalism, abstraction, emptiness, realism, and fantasy. The performers conjure these qualities through scores that amplify ambiguity as a skill and the craft of oscillating between image and sensation.

With incredible talent and perseverance, Chip Shelton has earned an undisputed reputation as one of the most renowned flutists in the world of jazz. The flute, with its high-pitched tone, didn’t start out as a swinging jazz instrument until Frank Wess first popularized it as a member of Count Basie’s Big Band. He set the standard for such noted flutists as Yusef Lateef, Herbie Mann, Charles Lloyd, and Hubert Laws that further propelled the instrument into the jazz spotlight.
