Tour | Tour of Gracie Mansion, Home of New York's Mayors

In 1799, a prosperous New York merchant named Archibald Gracie built a country house overlooking a bend in the East River, five miles north of the then-New York City limits. Little did he know that, more than 200 years later, his home would be serving as the official residence of the First Family of New York City - a place where history is made, not merely recorded. As a historic house museum run by the Parks Department, sitting on 11 acres of grounds now known as Carl Schurz Park, Gracie Mansion has served as the home of 10 mayors, beginning first with Mayor Fiorello H. La Guardia in 1942. Today, Gracie Mansion is occupied by the de Blasio family, which has opened its doors in the spirit of the administration's motto: one city, rising together. In keeping with that theme, Mayor de Blasio and First Lady Chirlane McCray have introduced a new art installation, titled “Windows on the City: Looking Out at Gracie’s New York.” This tour repeats every Monday.

Author Reading | David Lynch: The Man from Another Place

Author Dennis Lim’s remarkably smart and concise book proposes several lenses through which to view the filmmaker and his work: through the age-old mysteries of the uncanny and the sublime, through the creative energies of surrealism and postmodernism, through ideas of America and theories of good and evil. Lynch himself often warns against overinterpretation.

In this memoir, Augusten Burroughs details his adolescence in an eccentric household in Massachusetts. Augusten Burroughs is an American writer known for his New York Times bestselling memoir Running with Scissors (2002). It was made into a film in 2006. It was directed by Ryan Murphy, produced by Brad Pitt, and starred Joseph Cross, Brian Cox, Annette Bening, Alec Baldwin, and Evan Rachel Wood. Bening was nominated for a Golden Globe for her role.

Robin and Sarah weren't the closest of twins. They weren't even that similar. But they loved each other dearly. Until, in the cruellest of domestic twists, they were taken from one another. Now, in her early 30s, Robin lives alone. Agoraphobic and suffering from panic attacks, she spends her days pacing the rooms of her house. The rest of the time she watches, watches the street, the houses, the neighbours. Until one day, she sees something she shouldn't. And Sarah? Sarah got what she wanted, the good-looking man, the beautiful baby, the perfect home. But she's just been accused of the most terrible thing of all. She can't be around her new family until she has come to terms with something that happened a long time ago. Holly Seddon is a bestselling author. Her first novel, Try Not to Breathe, was published in 2016 and quickly became a bestseller. Her second novel, Don't Close Your Eyes, was published in July 2017 in the UK, USA and in many other countries. In May 2018, it hit number one in the audiobook charts.

Book Club | Armand V: An Unfinished Life

In Dag Solstad's novel, a diplomat is rising through the ranks of the Norwegian foreign office, caught between his public duty to support foreign wars in the Middle East and his private disdain of Western intervention. His son joins the Norwegian SAS to fight in the Middle East, despite being specifically warned against such a move by his father, which leads to catastrophic, heartbreaking consequences. Told exclusively in footnotes to an unwritten novel, this is Solstad's radically unconventional novel about how we experience the passing of time: how it fragments, drifts, quickens, and how single moments can define a life.

Concert | Oh Wonder: London Pop Duo

The London duo Oh Wonder’s origin story is the stuff of, well, wonder. Anthony, a producer, and Josephine, a vocalist and classical pianist, began their stark, alternative pop project in a DIY way, and never intended to play live. Cut to the mononymous musicians becoming the sound of the screen, with their songs gracing television shows such as Scream and Doctor Foster, and, along the way, becoming unwitting pop stars, too. Joining the duo is the rising pop star and established songwriter, Sasha Sloan.
