Tour | Trump Tour

Within the midtown area one is able to get the full spectrum of the Trump story and his rise to power. The tour will focus on three main things. The first is looking into the man himself and his history. He is well-connected with organized crime, illicit activity and corrupt dealings, and looking into his history in New York gives a window into that. The second is how he, as a symbol for real estate at large, has massively changed New York’s built environment to cater to a billionaire class at the expense of working New Yorkers. The third, potentially most important, is looking at the systemic nature of Trump’s rise in New York. What Trump has done is about a lot more than the single individual, and by looking at the agencies, actors and government institutions that have supported his rise, we can come away with a larger societal understanding of justice in our country. Author Reading | The Marshall Plan: The dawn of the Cold War and the reverberations that can still be felt today

At the end of World War II, the British empire was crumbling just as Stalin's was beginning to rise. The U.S. government and secretary of state George C. Marshall planned the reconstruction of western Europe as a bulwark against communist authoritarianism. The subsequent creation of NATO, the European Union, and a collective Western identity continues to shape world events. But Stalin was determined to crush the Marshall Plan and undermine American power in Europe. The critical years from 1947 to 1949 witnessed the Prague coup, the Berlin blockade, and the division of Germany. In The Marshall Plan, Benn Steil provides critical context of the international landscape, showing that the tenuous balance of power and uncertainty of the late 1940s still has ramifications today. Benn Steil is the senior fellow and director of international economics at the Council on Foreign Relations. He will be joined in conversation by NYU professor Timothy Naftali, who specializes in national security and presidential history.

Play | Sophocles's Antigone: Modern Re-Imagining of the Classic Greek Drama

Set in the city of Thebes in a dystopian future, the struggle for power, glory and the claim to the city shatters the bonds of brotherhood, leaving two men lifeless. The new king proclaims one brother a hero and the other a usurper, leaving his limp body lying in the street as an example to those who dare act against the state. The citizens of the city avert their eyes due to fear, turning instead to their new leader who vows to restore order to the war torn city. But when the sister of the slain young brothers protests the edict, she breaks faith with everything she has ever known in order to set things right at any cost. Calling on the cultural landscape of African-American traditions, while adhering to the Greek tragic form; this fresh reimagining of the classic story will captivate, stun and inspire audiences from all backgrounds. The Classical Theatre of Harlem's production is inspired by the Paul Roche adaptation which accomplishes a fidelity to the original while giving CTH the flexibility to showcase ancient ideas that have taken center stage in the current climate: order, law, justice and marginalized voices confronting power and patriarchy.
