Workshop | Community Rowing

No experience is necessary though rowing does require some physical dexterity. Community Rowing events are free sessions that include a basic introduction to rowing for first timers (safety orientation, rowing technique, and terminology) and of course plenty of actual rowing on the Hudson River. The rows take place in five-person wooden rowboats built on site. The rows last, depending on river conditions and crew experience, between one and three hours. Please arrive on-time as the crews will be assigned before 1PM. Bring extra water, a hat, and sunscreen as you will be rowing outdoors in the hot sun. Rowing is weather dependent and will be canceled for high winds, rain, or thunderstorms. All participants must sign a waiver and be able to climb a ladder. Every Sunday from June 10-October 21, 2018.

This two-hour tour of Williamsburg highlights two main themes: Gentrification and Environmental Justice. Williamsburg offers an extreme example of both of these broader themes, and thus makes a very interesting case-study neighborhood in which to delve into these issues. This tour gives participants detailed information that will enable them to understand the topic of gentrification, why it is happening, its history, who benefits, and what is driving it. The same is true of the backstory of the environmental justice movement in the area. Sites Covered: Roebling Oil Field Bedford Avenue McCarren Park & Pool Bushwick Inlet Park Radiac Corp. Festival | The Hot Dog Bus hands out free hot dogs

Artist Erwin Wurm has transformed a vintage Volkswagen Microbus into an overstuffed food truck serving free dogs! It's an absurd, yet approachable art experience that will encourage visitors to rethink the fundamental definitions of sculpture. Wurm's choice of the hot dog hints at the gastronomic connections between the City’s most iconic street food and his Austrian homeland, while he considers the act of eating to be an additive sculptural process in its own right.

Workshop | How to bring business to the world of music: with a composer, conductor, and bandleader

Marie Incontrera is an avant-garde musician whose multi-genre work spans opera, big band, heavy metal, post-modern orchestra, and chamber music; a social media, publicity, and speaker consultant; best-selling author and fitness enthusiast. "I have had the unique opportunity to work with today's leading thought leaders, business authors, and coaches; and some of the leading performers in jazz. I have been able to bring my understanding of business to the art world, but I've also found that there are great lessons that jazz musicians can teach entrepreneurs and Fortune 500 companies alike. In a climate where arts funding is difficult to come by, many artists that succeed are those that learn and develop business skills." - Marie Incontrera Please note a purchase of two beverages minimum per person required.

Concert | Indie Rock and Folk Music from Canada

Every movement has a touchstone sound or work. At the center of the indie rock Torontopia movement that shook the world was Broken Social Scene, an amorphous collective that melds baroque pop with experimental elements, and their 2002 album You Forgot It in People. The band is ever-changing but still around and kicking. They’ll be celebrating Canada Day with Mélissa Laveaux, a force of nature who intersperses finger-picked roots and folk guitar with spellbinding vocals and folk group, The East Pointers.
