Tour | Trump Tour

Within the midtown area one is able to get the full spectrum of the Trump story and his rise to power. The tour will focus on three main things. The first is looking into the man himself and his history. He is well-connected with organized crime, illicit activity and corrupt dealings, and looking into his history in New York gives a window into that. The second is how he, as a symbol for real estate at large, has massively changed New York’s built environment to cater to a billionaire class at the expense of working New Yorkers. The third, potentially most important, is looking at the systemic nature of Trump’s rise in New York. What Trump has done is about a lot more than the single individual, and by looking at the agencies, actors and government institutions that have supported his rise, we can come away with a larger societal understanding of justice in our country. Author Reading | Rising in Flames: Sherman’s March and the Fight for a New Nation

New York Times bestselling historian J. D. Dickey sheds new light on Sherman’s epic “March to the Sea,” especially the soldiers, doctors, nurses, and civilians who would change the nation for the better. Sherman's March to the Sea (also known as the Savannah Campaign) was a military campaign of the American Civil War conducted through Georgia from November 15 until December 21, 1864, by Maj. Gen. William Tecumseh Sherman of the Union Army. America in the antebellum years was a deeply troubled country, divided by partisan gridlock and ideological warfare, angry voices in the streets and the statehouses, furious clashes over race and immigration, and a growing chasm between immense wealth and desperate poverty. (Sounds familiar?) The Civil War that followed brought America to the brink of self-destruction. But it also created a new country from the ruins of the old one -- bolder and stronger than ever.

This month, you'll be gifted performances by George Civeris, Muna Mire, David Goldberg, Jay Jurden, Shannon Matesky, and Nico Tortorella! They will respond to the theme "Don’t Stop Me Now": think stories of perseverance, Pride, owning power, and overcoming obstacles. Greetings from Queer Mountain is a themed comedy, prose, and storytelling showcase created by Micheal Foulk and Ralphie Hardesty. The show is currently running in Austin, New Orleans, and now New York! The mission of the show is to provide more stage time for the LGBTQIA voices that are often left out of heteronormative art spaces and to foster the growth and acceptance of new voices in writing, comedy, and performance.

Concert | Raphael Saadiq: Grammy-Winning R&B Veteran

Since his early days with the multiplatinum group Tony! Toni! Toné! and throughout his three-decade career collaborating with artists like Solange, D’Angelo, and The Roots, Grammy-winning musician, songwriter, and producer Raphael Saadiq has kept the flames of old-school R&B burning brightly. For this special show, he takes his rightful place center stage to play treasures old and new from his deep catalog. Sharing the bill is Brooklyn’s own Tamar-kali, recently nominated (like Saadiq) for an Oscar for her musical work on the film Mudbound. Tonight, she and her strings/vocal ensemble explore the intersection of classical music and post-punk sensibility.

Play | Sophocles's Antigone: Modern Re-Imagining of the Classic Greek Drama

Set in the city of Thebes in a dystopian future, the struggle for power, glory and the claim to the city shatters the bonds of brotherhood, leaving two men lifeless. The new king proclaims one brother a hero and the other a usurper, leaving his limp body lying in the street as an example to those who dare act against the state. The citizens of the city avert their eyes due to fear, turning instead to their new leader who vows to restore order to the war torn city. But when the sister of the slain young brothers protests the edict, she breaks faith with everything she has ever known in order to set things right at any cost. Calling on the cultural landscape of African-American traditions, while adhering to the Greek tragic form; this fresh reimagining of the classic story will captivate, stun and inspire audiences from all backgrounds. The Classical Theatre of Harlem's production is inspired by the Paul Roche adaptation which accomplishes a fidelity to the original while giving CTH the flexibility to showcase ancient ideas that have taken center stage in the current climate: order, law, justice and marginalized voices confronting power and patriarchy.
