Festival | Winter Jam NYC


Winter Jam NYC is a FREE annual winter sports festival that encourages New Yorkers to get out and enjoy the outdoors in the winter. Their partners from Gore Mountain will be blowing lots of fresh snow, so bring your snow gear. Visitors will have the opportunity to try out winter sports on the Lake Placid Snow Field like cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, skiing and snowboarding, right in the heart of NYC. More experienced riders can show off their skills by signing up for the Red Bull MetroRail, an open snowboard and ski rail jam. Or, take a break from the cold and enjoy some après-ski snacks in the Pride of New York Winter Market or the Unreal Candy Unjunked spectator area. The first time Doggie Snow Zone will feature a snow park with agility equipment for your pooch, an ‘Ask the Expert’ booth featuring canine behavioralists and a celebrity dog stylist, a doggie treat bar, and more!

Dance Performance | Thunderbird American Indian Dancers' 38th Annual Dance Concert and Powwow


NY's noted Native American dance company, founded in 1963, is entering its 50th year, and the troupe is presenting its 38th annual Dance Concert and Powwow. The troupe's appearances benefit college funds for needy Native American students. There will be dances, stories and traditional music from the Iroquois and Native Peoples of the Northwest Coast, the Southwest, the Plains, and the Arctic regions. Between 15 and 20 dancers will assemble for the event. Highlights will include Storytelling by Matoka Eagle (Santo Domingo, Tewa), a Hoop Dance by Michael Taylor (Choctaw), a Caribou Dance (from the Inuit people of Alaska), a Buffalo Dance (from the Hopi people), a Grass Dance and Jingle Dress Dance (from the Northern Plains people), a Stomp Dance (from the Southeastern tribes), and a Shawl Dance (from the Oklahoma tribes). In the final section of the program, the audience will be invited to join in the Round Dance, a friendship dance. Afterward, the cast will remain in the theater to personally meet the children attending and be photographed with them.

The Studio Series offers an opportunity for research and development in a creative residency format, providing resources of time, space and a commission. The “performances” are intended to be informal public showings to share ideas with an audience in the intimate working space of the studio.
