"Harmony and Compassion: Music in Buddhist Ritual" conference explores forms of Buddhist musical practice through talks with scholars, educators, composers, lamas and monks, performances by singers, musicians and a choir, and demonstrations. Speakers will provide historical, sociological, and musicological context for musical rituals in Buddhist traditions. Performances will draw from different regions and styles of traditional chanting, ceremonial music, and contemporary composition. 

Day 1 - Thursday, April 8 - Buddhism, Music, and Society
The first day of the conference will focus on the role of music in Buddhist society, past and present.

Day 3 - Saturday, April 10 - A Blessing from Bhutan
Take a virtual journey to the Kingdom of Bhutan, “the happiest country on earth.” Artists and speakers will demonstrate how the ceremonial music of Bhutan as well as chanting performance contribute to the overall sense of well-being famously enjoyed by its citizens.
