Play | The Winter's Tale: Shakespeare's Tangled Traumas -- Outdoors

Barefoot Shakespeare Company is proud to bring this production to life for their 11th Season producing free Shakespeare in Central Park. The Winter's Tale will be directed by Barefoot Artistic Director and President Emily Gallagher. Step into the web of The Winter's Tale, where time slips through fingers like grains of sand and the stubborn weed of jealousy takes root, choking out reason and sowing discord. In this tale of tangled narratives and generational trauma, powerful women stand as pillars of support and strength, cultivating gardens of forgiveness amidst the barren landscape of lost time. This is a journey where stories intertwine like vines as hope blossoms, and where the only certainty is the transformative power of love. This summer's cast includes alumni and friends: Laurel Andersen, Carl Bindman, Andrew Dunn, Johnny Gottsegen, Kelly Blaze, Malavika Nair, Joe Raik, Tyler Riley, Regina Russell, Emily Thaler, and Ray Wilbur.

Discussion | Lazy Daze: The Soul of Yacht Rock

A panel discussion moderated by Scott Barkham (artist manager, yacht rock aficionado) with Gary Katz (producer, Steely Dan) and Greg Caz (world renowned DJ), as well as a DJ set dedicated to the enduring legacy of what is now commonly referred to as yacht rock. Between the years of 1974-1981 the radio title of soft rock was the introductory reference in radio circles. And from those origins, they’ll explore what it REALLY is.  A better term is probably soul rock, also called blue eyed soul, because the genre has a delicate yet natural balance between the worlds of AOR rock radio/AM radio and 70’s R&B. The significant aspect of this genre within a genre is its position in the vocabulary of crossover and cultural reference, and an undeniably positive and lasting connection across the American racial divide. It was embraced by many, and derided by few, and it dominated the AOR and AM airwaves when radio was king.

While Ruth is eager to make sense of her family’s past, Edek embarks on the trip with his own agenda. This emotional, funny culture clash of two New Yorkers exploring post-socialist Poland is a powerful example of how reconnecting with family and the past can be an unexpected treasure. Directed by Julia von Heinz Stars: Lena Dunham, Stephen Fry, André Hennicke 112 min. Following the film there will be a short Q&A with the film’s director
