Performance | Jesi Cook: Whole body in my ear

A performance in which sound and body emerge as one fluid and dynamic textural form. The work sees performers splice and patch text, movement, and sound scores in creating new languages and porous realities. This endurance-based auditory fantasy pushes toward dissonance, using it as a means to explore and amplify otherness. The scores build, heighten, and erode an ouroboric circuit—with patterns repeating, leaking, and breaking apart throughout a shifting sculptural landscape. Performers: Jesi Cook, Ayano Elson, Amelia Heintzelman, Mina Nishimura Live Sound Mixing: Jeff Aaron Bryant Lighting Design: Daniele Sarti

Concert | Electronic, Mexican, and African Music in a Park

Headliner The Halluci Nation, formerly known as A Tribe Called Red, will perform their Indigenous-inspired electronica. Openers Xiuhtezcatl and Asase Yaa Youth Ensemble take you on a musical journey, from Xiuhtezcatl’s raw lyricism to the vibrant rhythms of Asase Yaa’s African drumming. Bring your whole family and enjoy fun activities on the lawn at this all-ages event. About the Performers The Halluci Nation took its name from a phrase coined by John Trudell, to describe the vast global community of people who remember at their core, what it means to be human. The Halluci Nation’s record, One More Saturday Night, is a love letter to the Electric Pow Wow gatherings launched at Ottawa’s Babylon nightclub in 2007. It represents an imagined denouement to the biweekly Saturday-night parties that ended abruptly in 2017, without ever getting the proper send-off. One More Saturday Night thus pays homage to the parties’ energy and momentum that elevated The Halluci Nation to this pivotal point in their career of fully mastering their own music style while also moving beyond club music. Xiuhtezcatl is a musician, activist, and a prolific voice for his generation. Since taking the global stage by storm at the early age of 6, his art and his voice thrive at the intersection of his many identities. Xiuhtezcatl’s first relationship with music was as a means of preserving his Indigenous culture and language, which influence the sound and direction of his releases to this day. His thought-provoking lyrics are anchored by his Xochimilca and Mexican roots, and the environmental justice work his mother raised him in. Growing up with deep ties to family and community on both sides of the US and Mexico border, he incorporates Spanish and English interchangeably into his music, which has become an outlet for representing his generation, and his people. He has performed and collaborated with artists such as Raury, WILLOW, and Jaden. Asase Yaa Youth Ensemble is a collective of young artists who are being trained in many forms of dance and music. The youth perform and promote African culture throughout the city and Tri-State area. The ensemble consists of dancers and musicians and focuses on black dance and music, including traditional African dance, Hip hop, Dunham technique, and traditional African music from throughout the diaspora. Doors open 3pm.

Performance | Going Along to Get Along: Performance Art (in-person and online)

A performance by the Reentry Theater of Harlem. "Going Along to Get Along" implies a widespread reluctance to challenge the structural mechanisms that perpetuate crime, violence, and inequality. What might appear a diplomatic approach to circumvent conflict and social disharmony, often simultaneously sustains systemic discrimination and harassment. Silence, then, equals complicity. Pushing the frontiers of political imagination, this performance by leading members of the Reentry Theater of Harlem questions the detrimental effects that "going along to get along" can have as a societal attitude that chooses to conform rather than confront the structural injustices that incarceration and homelessness entail and reproduce.  Alex Anderson, Bruce Blake, and pastor Khalil James are leading members of the Reentry Theater of Harlem, an avant-garde theater by and for people who have lived experience in the U.S. criminal legal system. RTH utilizes theatrical rites of passage to confront and overcome the shame, stigma, and trauma of incarceration, empowering people’s transition from prison back to society.

An open rehearsal by Dance Heginbotham of their newest work, You Look Like a Fun Guy. You Look Like a Fun Guy is an outdoor performance event inspired by John Cage’s interest in mycology and his methods of composing music. Directed and choreographed by John Heginbotham, You Look Like a Fun Guy celebrates Cage's rigorous and playful concerns as well as the astonishing nature and behavior of fungi. Dance Performance | Fallacies: Dance from a Dancer's Perspective

Fallacies blurs the lines between original source and personal interpretation, constructing dance from a dancer's perspective. Distorting referential choreography to reveal new patterns and physical possibilities, the piece materializes as a Rorschach test of dance. When the movement is stripped down, what do you see? By rendering movement through the lens of its performers, Fallacies makes invisible embodied histories visible. Choreography: Nattie Trogdon + Hollis Bartlett in collaboration with the performers
