Book Discussion | The Light of Battle: Eisenhower, D-Day, and the Birth of the American Superpower (online)

Author Michel Paradis paints a vivid portrait of Dwight Eisenhower as he learns to navigate the crosscurrents of diplomacy, politics, strategy, family, and fame with the fate of the free world hanging in the balance. In a world of giants—Churchill, Roosevelt, De Gaulle, Marshall, MacArthur—it was a barefoot boy from Abilene, Kansas, who would master the art of power and become a modern-day George Washington. Drawing upon meticulous research and a voluminous body of newly discovered records, letters, diaries, and firsthand accounts from three continents, Paradis brings Eisenhower to life, as a complicated man who craved simplicity, a genial cipher whose smile was a lethal political weapon.

Play | The Winter's Tale: Shakespeare's Tangled Traumas -- Outdoors

Barefoot Shakespeare Company is proud to bring this production to life for their 11th Season producing free Shakespeare in Central Park. The Winter’s Tale will be directed by Barefoot Artistic Director and President Emily Gallagher. Step into the web of The Winter's Tale, where time slips through fingers like grains of sand and the stubborn weed of jealousy takes root, choking out reason and sowing discord. In this tale of tangled narratives and generational trauma, powerful women stand as pillars of support and strength, cultivating gardens of forgiveness amidst the barren landscape of lost time. This is a journey where stories intertwine like vines as hope blossoms, and where the only certainty is the transformative power of love. This summer’s cast includes alumni and friends: Laurel Andersen, Carl Bindman, Andrew Dunn, Johnny Gottsegen, Kelly Blaze, Malavika Nair, Joe Raik, Tyler Riley, Regina Russell, Emily Thaler, and Ray Wilbur.

Master Class | Celebrated Soprano Luana DeVol (Met Opera, La Scala) Masterclass

American dramatic Soprano Luana DeVol's career spanned over 25 years. She is considered one of the world's most successful dramatic sopranos, having sung major roles in the world's major houses, including La Scala, Milan, Teatro de Liceu, Barcelona, the Wagner Festspiel Bayreuth, Vienna Staatsoper, and the Metropolitan Opera New York. The masterclass is given to advanced students while fellow students and audience observe. The student will typically perform an aria or a song then the master will share advice on how to sing the aria or song. When the masterclass is open to a general audience, the master can give more "general-public-friendly" advice to the singer. The goal is to simultaneously entertain an audience made up of fans of the master and singing aficionados and give the singer nuggets of information that they can take with them.
