Museums | Tiffany Glass and Other Exhibitions

The collection of Tiffany's leaded glass includes an extraordinary array of floral and geometric lamps as well as landscape and figural windows. A unique feature of the collection is a vast, one-of-a-kind archive of original flat glass and pressed-glass "jewels" used by Tiffany Studios, which provides valuable insight into the development of the stained-glass movement in America at the turn of the twentieth century. Established in 1972, this art museum's permanent collection consists of around 10,000 items, over 6,000 of which are documents and objects related to the 1939 and 1964 World's Fairs, some of which are on long-term display.

Author Reading | To End a Plague: America's Fight to Defeat AIDS in Africa

When George W. Bush announced the PEPFAR (The President's Emergency Plan For AIDS Relief) program in 2003, he launched an astonishingly successful American war against a global pandemic. PEPFAR played a key role in slashing HIV cases and AIDS deaths in sub-Saharan Africa, leading to the brink of epidemic control. Resilient in the face of flatlined funding and political headwinds, PEPFAR is America's singular example of how to fight long-term plague--and win. Emily Bass has spent more than twenty years writing about and working on HIV/AIDS in America and East and Southern Africa. Her writing has appeared in Foreign Policy, The Washington Post, The Lancet, Esquire. She has served as an external expert for the World Health Organization (WHO). Brass will discuss the story and her new book. First come, first served. Weather permitting.

Park Walk | Tide Deck Tour

The design of the park's Pier 26 is inspired by the Manhattan shoreline that would have existed prior to Henry Hudson's 1609 expedition. The pier includes a series of ecological communities representing this native landscape, including from a woodland forest to the rocky tidal zone and the Hudson River itself. One of the most unique of these native coastal environments is a manufactured rocky tidal marsh, the Tide Deck which is located on the western end of the Pier. The Tide Deck and its marsh plants ebb and flood with our daily tidal cycle, and features many interesting habitat enhancements including tide pools. Take a socially distant tour on the Tide Deck walkway. Staff will talk about this special environment. Please note that COVID-19 safety precautions will be in place for this event.

Play | The Two Noble Kinsmen: Shakespeare's Final Play

The Two Noble Kinsmen is a play by John Fletcher and William Shakespeare that was reprinted in a second folio edition of Beaumont and Fletcher's plays in 1679. Its story is taken from "The Knight's Tale" by Chaucer. It is generally accepted to be The Bard's final play before he retired to Stratford-Upon-Avon and died three years later--a collaboration of an older playwright with one whose career had only begun. The play is a tragicomedy in the manner of Fletcher. Chairs are provided on a first come, first served basis and audience members are welcome to bring their own.
