Concert | Nowhere: Pianist Performs 12 Hours a Day for 14 Consecutive Days

For fourteen consecutive days, twelve hours a day, pianist Marino Formenti will perform at the venue -- where he will also live in a space that is mercilessly both public and private. We invite you to come and go freely, to listen to music in a different dimension, with Formenti playing the piano daily, from morning to night. With round-the-clock live streaming, you can also experience and share his days at a distance. Nowhere is a non-place in the middle of the city. Marino Formenti performs, eats, sleeps, and lives all in the same space -- a metaphorical, silent, musical 'glass house' that is also surrounded and on view by the daily life of the city. In a performance about music, time, and togetherness, Formenti questions any and all divisions between performance and life. Days become music. Come and stay, leave and come back, listen or ignore the pianist, sleep, read, write, draw, lie down -- to experience music, time, and togetherness in another way. August 14-28, 2019

Jazz | A Tribute to the Legendary Drummer Art Blakey

Carl Allen's jazz bonafides are indisputable--as a young drummer out of William Paterson University he earned a spot in Freddie Hubbard's band, and would go on to play with the saxophonists George Coleman and Phil Woods (among others), and serve as the Artistic Director of Jazz Studies at the Juilliard School. The quintet he brings--featuring Jeremy Pelt, JD Allen, Eric Reed, and Peter Washington--pays tribute to one of his heroes, the legendary drummer Art Blakey. Allen is joined by NEA Jazz Master and one of the most respected musicians out of the hard-bop era George Coleman and his trio, the multiple Grammy Award nominee pianist Fred Hersch, who has been proclaimed as "the most arrestingly innovative pianist in jazz" by Vanity Fair, and the saxophonist Lakecia Benjamin, who has played with the likes of Missy Elliot, Alicia Keys, Stevie Wonder, Macy Gray, the Roots, and Anita Baker.
