Gallery Talk | Artist Talk: 13BC: Fatal Act

Join the founding members of 13BC for a talk and walk-through of Fatal Act. The exhibition concerns the ongoing legacy of atomic warfare and military testing in the United States, spanning histories of conflict, toxicity, and the images made to celebrate or contest this legacy. In particular, it expands outwards from the unlikely correspondence between Günther Anders, a German anti-nuclear activist and philosopher who fixated on technology’s capacity to outpace any human intention, and U.S. Air Force pilot Claude Eatherly, whose "all clear" weather report precipitated the bombing of Hiroshima and whose botched robberies after the war landed him in and out of jail and psychiatric care. Departing from an unrealized Bob Hope biopic of Eatherly’s life story, Fatal Act works within the negative space of this incomplete project to at once refuse the iconic images of military spectacle and carry out a different work of memory.
