From the Beats to the Folk Movement, from workers rights to gay rights, the Village has often been the center of it all.

Concert | Jim Jones, Hip-Hop Star

Joseph Guillermo Jones II is undoubtedly one of the hardest working people in hip-hop. Better known as Jim Jones, this Bronx-born, Harlem-bred star has never stopped hustling since his 2004 release On My Way to Church (a reference to his days coming up in uptown New York). The hometown hero of Puerto Rican and Aruban descent would crank out another hit-maker the following year, Harlem: Diary of a Summer. Just one short year later, he dropped the album Hustler’s P.O.M.E. (Product Of My Environment), which supplied “We Fly High,” a platinum-certified #5 smash. It was at this time that the industrious Jones also formed the band ByrdGand (and label of the same name), as they promptly released M.O.B.: The Album. Subsequent records would produce the undisputed hits “Pop Champagne” and “Perfect Day.” Utilizing his innate business savviness, Jones has successfully branded himself for television purposes, forged a clothing line (Vampire Life – to accompany his latest series of popular tracks), and even cultivated a beverage.
