Museums | British Decorative Arts, Design, Sculpture


Almost seven hundred works of art: British decorative arts, design, and sculpture created between 1500 and 1900. The exhibition provides a fresh perspective on the period, focusing on its bold, entrepreneurial spirit and complex history. You will find a 17th century staircase with exquisite naturalistic carvings; three magnificent historic interiors from Kirtlington Park, Croome Court, and Lansdowne House; one hundred English teapots; an array of enameled candlesticks, silver toys, necessaires, gold boxes and more. Museums | Dutch Masterpieces: Paintings by Rembrandt, Hals, and Vermeer


Dutch paintings of the 17th century: the Golden Age of Rembrandt, Hals, and Vermeer. Through sixty-seven works of art organized thematically, In Praise of Painting orients visitors to key issues in 17th century Dutch culture--from debates about religion and conspicuous consumption to painters' fascination with the domestic lives of women. The presentation also provides the opportunity to conserve and display rarely exhibited paintings, including Margareta Haverman's A Vase of Flowers--one of only two known paintings by the artist. The exhibition takes its title from one of the period's major works of art theory, Philips Angel's The Praise of Painting (1642), a pioneering defense of realism in art. Proof of vaccination, ID, masks are required.

Tour | Tour the Historic 1908 Lightship Ambrose


On this guided tour, visitors can tour the multiple decks of this National Historic Landmark to see the living and working spaces once inhabited by sailors stationed on Ambrose, as well as the special features that allow the ship to fulfill its mission of staying on station, being seen, and being heard. Ambrose is the first vessel to join the Seaport Museum's fleet and the very first lightship to guard the largest shipping channel in and out of the ports of New York and New Jersey--the Ambrose Channel. Access to Ambrose requires walking up an angled gangway. Stairs lead to the lower decks. Start times: 11:30am, 2:30pm, 3:30pm, 4:00pm See link for COVID protocols.
