Tour | Dance Theatre Workshop Exhibition: A Place for Creativity & Experimentation
Take a tour of an exhibition to learn how Dance Theater Workshop grew from a need for space into a lasting model of support for artists. Dance Theater Workshop provided not only space to create, but also offered classes and professional development for artists, subsidized video recordings of performances, and gave artists administrative support. For many individual artists, it was the first time that they did not have to manage every aspect of a production by themselves, and this freed up time for creativity and experimentation. Over time, Dance Theater Workshop became a crucial venue for artists in the downtown scene. A number of choreographers now well known all over the world, including Mark Morris, Donald Byrd, Bebe Miller, and Bill T. Jones, all got their start at the Dance Theater Workshop. Dance Theater Workshop also provided funds and initiatives that helped these artists travel and exhibit their work outside of New York, and brought regional artists to the city. They also created the Bessie Awards, which recognize outstanding and groundbreaking creative work by independent dance artists in New York City.

Workshop | Qigong Yoga for Beginners
Instructor Siewli Stark leads a 1-hour session of beginner yoga. Please bring your own yoga mat for this class. This session will explore Qigong. Qigong (pronounced chee-gong) is an ancient Chinese practice that combines gentle movement, breath awareness, and focused intention to harmonize the body, mind, and spirit. In this class, participants will slow down and tune into the natural rhythm of our bodies, learning simple standing or seated exercises to support vitality, reduce stress, and improve emotional balance. Qigong is accessible to all ages and fitness levels, and no experience is necessary. Siewli Stark is a bodyworker who specializes in using embodied practices to help others feel more connected to their bodies, health, and well-being. She believes that movement and feeling good in our bodies is a birthright and that everyone should have the opportunity to explore and enhance their relationship with their bodies through movement, breath, touch, and stillness. **All participants must bring the release form at the link filled out and signed to the class.**

This cultural center spotlights the rich creative history of one of the most populous cities in China with a campus-spanning Shanghai Day! The dynamic and complex culture of the East will be reflected with a genre-spanning celebration featuring an impressive selection of all-ages events, including a high-energy music carnival with street dancing, a sizzling jazz concert featuring virtuoso trumpeter Li Xiaochuan, and a silent disco party with DJs. Audiences can also enjoy a musical theater show that explores the faces of the Chinese zodiac, and a participatory crafts market. The phenomenally popular F2P fantasy Arknights comes to life with a concert in the park, illustrated by animations from the game's deep lore. Add in a rare full-length screening of the classic cartoon Monkey King: Uproar in Heaven and you've got the makings of an unforgettable day! Erin Hall is a singer, songwriter, and cellist Erin Hall. Formerly Erin and Her Cello, she has been delighting audiences with her unique blend of music and comedy, performing all over NYC including venues such as Rockwood Music Hall, Joe’s Pub at the Public Theater, BAM Cafe, and more.
She and her band have been featured on WNYC’s New Sounds and Broad City Live, and have opened for the Portland Cello Project and comedian Tig Notaro. Her music defies easy categorization, jumping effortlessly between Latin, funk, jazz, and French pop while weaving together stories of ordinary city life and a love for the beauty found in urban nature.
