This event is for people to come together and share in the beautiful art of Origami--an ancient art of folding various mediums, most commonly paper. The word comes from the combination of the Japanese verb oru (to fold) and the noun kami (paper). Other materials often folded are fabric, wire mesh, sheet metal, tissue, thin plastic, cardboard, and straws.This group meets to teach each other new models and share paper, books, and tips. This meeting iopen to all level of folders from beginner to advanced. There will be free paper available to share. You may choose to bring your own paper and books and just show up and fold! Conceived in collaboration with Janete Da Silva, founder of the Silva Dance Company, this panel discussion highlights how Brazilian artists are reshaping ballet’s future, exploring the role of identity in shaping a dancer’s career. Moderated by the Executive Director of The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts, Roberta Pereira, the confirmed panelists for this talk will include Brazilian-born Nayara Lopes, currently a principal dancer with the Philadelphia Ballet; Ingrid Silva, founder of the arts equity organization EmpowHer NY and originally from Rio de Janeiro; and Dylan Santos, an eleven-year veteran with Dance Theatre of Harlem and on Broadway in the smash-hit The Lion King. Brazilian singer-songwriter Anelis Assumpcao channels the socially critical, intellectually liberal, and culturally diverse perspectives of Sao Paolo DIY movement Vanguarda Paulistanta into her work. Assumpcao's music is a lively blend of jazz, funk, prog rock, dub reggae, samba and pop, all held aloft by her sinewy, melodic voice. Assumpcao's art synthesizes the ancestry of the Afro-Brazilian people, presenting their authentic experience through words and rhythms. She has released four albums, a children's book, and numerous singles and noteworthy collaborations, establishing herself as one of the most important artists of her generation. Concert | Sunset Music on the Water: Spontaneous Sounds of the Mediterranean & Middle Eastern
Prinkipo is an ensemble based in New York City that blends the musical traditions of the Mediterranean and the Middle East. The ensemble includes Fuat Caner Tokgozol on oud, Gilbert Mansour on percussion, Ozlem Rozanitis on vocals, Sal Mamudoski on clarinet, Dila Oktay on kemenche, and Bashar Farran on bass. Their repertoire showcases a rich blend of maqams, rhythms, and various musical traditions from these regions, including rebetiko, traditional folk, and classical music. Their music is a collection of traditional melodies, passed down through generations and shared across the Eastern Mediterranean. These songs serve as living narratives, woven into the collective heritage of these regions, forming a rich sound atlas. Each performance is marked by expressive solos and spontaneous musical conversations.

Concert | Latin Grammy-Winning Singer-Songwriter Liniker (In Person AND Online!)
Born in the countryside of Sao Paulo, the bold and groundbreaking superstar, singer-songwriter Liniker is proving that you don't have to choose between changing the world or charting hits. Honored as an "Immortal" by the Brazilian Academy of Culture, cast in a star role in the Amazon Prime Video series Manhas de Setembro, and winner of the Latin GRAMMY for Best Portuguese Language Popular Music Album (making her the first transgender artist to ever win a Latin GRAMMY), Liniker's resume speaks for itself. Liniker originally made her mark on the Brazilian music scene as the bandleader of Liniker e os Caramelows, singing a fusion of samba, pop, soul, jazz, dub reggae, R&B and cabaret torch songs. Her sophomore solo LP, 2024's CAJU, was a major winner at the 2024 Multishow Awards, deemed by the culture journal escutai to be "diverse, dynamic, plural, orchestral, psychedelic... a mix of the many parts of the grand whole that is Liniker."
