Talk | Being an Ethicist: Exploring Ethical Dilemmas

Talks, September 09, 2019, 09/09/2019, Being an Ethicist: Exploring Ethical Dilemmas

Monday, September 9, 2019, 6:30 pm

“After twelve years writing the popular New York Times Magazine column, I examine how the moral landscape – and my own moral reasoning – changed over that time. Plus: how I got, how I did, and what I learned from my unusual job. Are those questions real? Did I ever get one wrong? (Or, depending on your perspective, right?)”

Randy Cohen’s first professional work was writing humor pieces, essays, and stories for newspapers and magazines (The New Yorker, Harpers, The Atlantic, Young Love Comics). His first television work was writing for Late Night With David Letterman, for which he won three Emmy awards.

For 12 years he wrote “The Ethicist,” a weekly column for The New York Times Magazine. In his book, Be Good: How to Navigate the Ethics of Everything, Cohen helps readers locate their own internal ethical compasses as he delivers answers to life’s most challenging dilemmas. He is currently the host of Person Place Thing, a public radio program.
