Workshop | How To Level-Up Your Smartphone Photography (+ Photowalk)

How to think, see, and shoot with greater intention using the camera you already own. 2:30pm - 4:00pm This workshop is designed for photographers of every level who want to develop a more intentional, repeatable, and confident approach to iPhone photography. The classroom portion will introduce a proven framework for understanding how the iPhone camera actually works: its strengths, its limitations, and the specific settings and skills that lead to consistently better photographs and video. Participants will learn how to think about resolution, compression, stabilization, exposure, focus, white balance, and lens choice in ways that support a deliberate photographic practice rather than a casual point‑and‑shoot habit. 4:00pm - 6:00pm After the classroom session, the group will head out for a guided photowalk where attendees will put these concepts into action. This portion is designed to help photographers translate theory into muscle memory: how to see a scene, how to simplify it, how to choose the right lens, how to stabilize the shot, how to expose correctly, and how to make quick, confident decisions in real‑world conditions. The goal is to leave participants with a practical, repeatable approach they can use every day-whether shooting travel, street, portraits, macro, or video.

Opening Reception | After the Fire: Solo Exhibition Transforming Materials Recovered from Built Environments

A new body of sculpture and works on paper by Ilan Averbuch. The exhibition continues a defining thread in Averbuch’s practice: the transformation of materials recovered from built environments – stone pulled from old bridges, curbstone salvaged from city streets, steel drawn from industrial sites – into vessels for memory, history, and interpretation. The exhibition brings together sculptures in granite and steel with an extensive body of drawings, including large-format works on paper and smaller drawings framed and installed together in a single, mosaic-like composition. The accumulation of drawings creates a field of shifting scale, gesture, and mark-making, placing the intimacy of the drawn line in dialogue with the physical weight and monumentality of Averbuch’s sculpture. Central to Averbuch’s practice is what he calls a “rupture of balance.” Providing recycled materials with a new purpose, he resists the notion that a structure’s first function determines its final meaning. The resulting works transform the heavy and literal objects into something more elusive, imbuing them with a sense of memory, movement, and suspension. In Red Moon, stone and steel form an eclipse that shifts and dissolves as the viewer moves around it. Nearby, Even Walls Can Move transforms brick and bent steel on an intimate scale, enlivening the brick wall in a boat form, providing it with a sense of animacy and motion. On a larger scale Bearers of Memory extends this inquiry into human ingenuity and the long history of migration.

Opening Reception | Between Lines: Solo Painting Exhibition Capturing Movement as both a Physical & Psychological Experience

A new series of paintings by Ludovic Nkoth. Across the exhibition, Nkoth explores movement as both a physical and psychological experience, depicting dancers, figures in moments of interaction, and a constellation of profiles whose gestures move between performance and private experience. Drawing on ballet, performance, and the experience of migration, Between Lines considers the ways we learn to move through the world through discipline, adaptation, memory, change and what remains within the body after that movement has passed.

Opening Reception | BOILED: Solo Exhibition of Visceral Material Interactions

A sculptural exhibition by Hannah Levy. Seven new sculptures examine the uneasy relationship between the body and the designed world through visceral material interactions. Combining blown glass with hand-carved and polished stainless steel, Levy draws on the anatomies of arthropods and serpents alongside references to furniture, Art Nouveau ornamentation, and mobility aids. Bubbling glass in warm, organic hues is blown through, encased, and compressed by jointed limbs, pointed extremities, and sinuous supports. Her creature-object hybrids hover between defense and vulnerability, playing with the inherent tensions of the structures and systems designed to support, protect, transport, and treat the body.  Both elegant and unsettling, Levy’s sculptures serve as sensuous reminders of precarious negotiations–ornament and function, care and constraint, flesh and mechanism–making tangible how designed forms accommodate and constrain the bodies they encounter.

Opening Reception | Boxes and Reconstructions: Solo Avant-Garde Exhibition Exploring Selfhood & Identity

Two seminal bodies of work by the influential Greek-born American artist Lucas Samaras. Alongside a selection of iconic, deeply enigmatic box sculptures from the 1960s through the 1980s, Boxes and Reconstructions will also feature never-before-seen fabric paintings from Samaras’s pioneering and little-known Reconstructions series of 1979. Across more than seven decades at the forefront of the avant-garde, Samaras’s work remained both profoundly personal and formally inventive. Drawing on elements of his personal history—from his childhood amid the Greek Civil War to his later experiences as part of the New York City’s avant-garde of the 1950s and 1960s—he engaged sculpture photography, painting and drawing, and digital art to explore the nature of selfhood and identity. Samaras’s boxes, the works for which he best known, underscore his enduring interest in assemblage as an assertion of the self. Presented in dialogue with the sewn fabric works that Samaras called Reconstructions, they illustrate the artist’s uncanny ability to assemble and transform banal materials from the world around him into surreal, self-contained environments.

Opening Reception | PG-13: Solo Exhibition of Vibrant Swirling Forms

The exhibition showcases the first body of work PamGlick has produced since returning to live in New York City after a 30-year hiatus. Reflecting her recent forays into isolating stacks of color, these bold paintings engage with earlier works, in which vibrant swirling forms reveal an ongoing interest in the direction of movement and color across the picture plane. Animated by a language of her own, Glick’s compositions are organized through numerous horizontal and vertical delineations, suggesting the regularity of a grid. Upon closer observation however, one notices the continuous disruption by curved, looping, and free gestural marks. White lines form an intricate web across a predominant color, overlap and intersect, break through, and, in doing so, create a complex network of positive and negative spaces. The resulting tension between geometric organization and spontaneous mark-making gives the surface a sense of dynamism and visual vibrancy.

Opening Reception | Rita Lundqvist: Works of Balance in Composition & Narration

An exhibition of new work by Rita Lundqvist. An exquisitely rendered group of new oil paintings on panel pulls the viewer into Lundqvist’s enigmatic world of stillness and silence. With relentless consistency, the intimately scaled compositions feature a familiar vocabulary of figures and objects that appear engaged in mysterious activities. Discrete yet seemingly interconnected scenes depict a singular figure or pair in spiritual or ritual contexts, inviting varied narrative interpretations. In Lundqvist’s work, the focus is always composition and color, with flattened forms and a subdued palette of muted greys, indigos, pale yellows, and ochres, imbuing them with a sense of sublimity. The spare scenes and scale of the works leave space for quiet contemplation.

Opening Reception | STACKS: Solo Exhibition Inquiry into the Histories, Objects, Gestures, & Ideas Shaping Jazz

An exhibition of new and recent work by Jason Moran. The presentation continues Moran’s inquiry into the histories, objects, gestures, and ideas that shape jazz and its cultural landscape, explored through a range of materials including works on paper, sculpture, and video.  Moran’s practice is grounded in the relationship between music and language. Working through experimentation and improvisation, and in dialogue with the musicians and artists who have preceded him, Moran moves between sound, image, performance, and material. At the center of the exhibition is a new sculpture of two small upright parlor pianos precariously stacked on top of each other. Through mirroring and inversion, a familiar instrument becomes a monumental architectural form that evokes both the significance of the piano to the history of jazz, as well as the gravity of layers that stack across generations.

Opening Reception | The Path to Stars: Solo Painting Exhibition Examining the Sun & Stars

An installation of a major new work by Sandra Cinto. For over three decades, Sandra Cinto has explored the potential of drawing to create intricate images and immersive environments, often using the line as a gesture to deconstruct the physical and conceptual boundaries between painting, sculpture, and site. New paintings, wall paintings, and folding screens further examine the sun and the stars as inspirational elements, offering powerful means of connection, particularly during times of polarization and discord. The Path to Stars invites the viewer to reflect on the idea of perception through the lens of opposites. At the entrance to the gallery, a dark blue tondo painting greets visitors. Reminiscent of the night sky, Nocturne begins the journey from night to day. Continuing into the main space, the palette of the paintings transitions through waning twilight to a large tondo, Aurora, depicting the first light of sunrise. A series of smaller skyscapes captures the golden light of daytime, before culminating in the inky blue of dusk. Together, the paintings in the exhibition investigate how contrasts influence the way we see, feel, and interpret the world around us. By exploring the relationships between light and shadow, presence and absence, balance and imbalance, the exhibition encourages visitors to question the boundaries between extremes and to realize that opposites do not cancel each other out; rather, they can coexist, complement one another, and undergo mutual transformation.

Opening Reception | The Street: Solo Painting Exhibition Intersecting Private & Public Moments

A new body of work roused from a lucid dream of remembered places and human intrigue set halfway between the Renaissance and the present day. Across six large-scale paintings, a cast of characters move through brick-lined streets with uncanny spatial logic, fragmenting their bodies into a palimpsest of limbs, faces, and disembodied hands. Layered and diluted paint flows in translucent swathes of color dammed by assertive outlines, occasionally revealing the ghostly pentimenti of an altered pose or worked-over figure. Introducing contemporary costumes and observed environments, Walker’s expanded visual language grounds and reinvents the drama of an interior self set loose in the outside world. Reading like a frieze around the perimeter of the gallery, the horizontal and vertical tableaus rally across pictorial space, shuttling the viewer between public settings and private rooms. Walker intersects these private moments of awakening with the directive to unmask and perform – a central theme in her practice – in the covertly theatrical space of the street.

Opening Reception | the year of mud: Solo Painting Exhibition Where Certainty Dissolves

An exhibition of new paintings by London-based artist Li Hei Di. the year of mud will situate Li’s oneiric, effervescent compositions in a mediated viewing environment. Existing between figuration and abstraction, Li’s paintings inhabit a space where certainty begins to dissolve. Li understands life as an ongoing act of transformation—an unending negotiation between interior experience and external reality. Their figures are never fixed, continually shifting between states of becoming and allowing the body to function less as a stable form than as a vessel through which memory, emotion, and desire flow. The compositions, rendered in a rich and almost shimmering palette, reveal themselves gradually as forms surface, recede, and transform.

Opening Reception | TRUSS LIGHT SCULPTURES 01: Solo Sculptural Exhibition Exploring Light, Industrial Form, & Material Transformation

The first exhibition of sculpture by Alexandre de Betak and his first solo show in New York. Across two rooms, de Betak presents twelve works in which light, industrial form and material transformation are brought together into a new sculptural language. For more than three decades, de Betak worked with light, scale and the dynamics of perception to redefine the spectacle of live shows. In this new body of work, he turns to the very apparatus that made them possible - the truss and the stage light. De Betak transforms this peripheral infrastructure from supporting act to protagonist - reimagining it as something with its own permanence, atmosphere and presence. These new sculptures extend de Betak's ongoing explorations of light, scale and material contrasts.

Opening Reception | Wishful Thinking: Solo Sculptural Exhibition Reconsidering the Nude through a Contemporary Lens

Karon Davis' meditation on the complicated, all too often absent role of the Black figure within the canon of art history. The exhibition presents new life-size, nude sculptures created from body casting friends, muses, and models. Incorporating and expanding upon the classical tradition of sculpture, Davis reconsiders the nude through a contemporary lens. Drawing from visual art, mythology, and theatre from antiquity to the modern era, Davis creates figurative tableaux that reflect on and reimagine Western traditions of representation.

Book Discussion | Professional Development Expert Discusses the Emotional Toll of Career Loss & Change

In conversation with Tiffany Dufu, Jovian Zayne will explore the emotional realities that often accompany career transitions, job loss, burnout, caregiving, parenting, professional reinvention, and the everyday pressure to keep it all together. Together, they'll discuss practical ways to reframe challenging seasons, quiet the inner critic, ask for help, and create more room for relief, reflection, and renewed possibility. In Soft Landings for Hard Days, Jovian Zayne offers a compassionate companion for navigating the moments when life, work, and responsibility feel heavier than usual. Drawing from her work as an executive coach and her own experiences navigating career, motherhood, uncertainty, and difficult seasons, Jovian invites readers to question the pressure to simply push through--and consider what it might look like to meet hard days with greater compassion.

Concert | Resonance Studies: Experience of Listening & Smelling

A lecture performance by Viennese artist, musician, and perfumer Alexander Kasses exploring the deep structural kinship between music and scent. What does a chord smell like? Can a fragrance have a rhythm? In Resonance Studies, Kasses explores two art forms that share a vocabulary of notes, accords, and composition, as well as a powerful ability to unlock memory and emotion. Part performance and part sensory experience, the evening moves between listening and smelling. Kasses traces episodes from the history of perfumery, demonstrates how olfactory compositions are constructed like pieces of music, and invites the audience to experience both media directly.

Opening Reception | The Red and the Violet: Historical Exhibition on McCarthyism in Hugher Education

This exhibition tells the stories of three NYU professors who were persecuted for their left-wing activism during the Red Scare in the early 1950s. Two of them, Lyman Bradley and Edwin Berry Burgum, were hauled before US Congressional committees, before being stripped of tenure and fired by NYU. The third, Margaret Schlauch, fled to Poland rather than testify before Congress and lose her job. This exhibition uncovers a connection to the Spanish Civil War. This exhibition is curated by Zachary Samalin, NYU Associate Professor of English/

Opera | New York Stage Premieres of 2 Short Operas: Trials and Tears & Sacajawea: Women of Many Names

Trials and Tears is a collaboration between Avery and Oneida/Ojibwe multi-disciplinary artist Ty Defoe; the piece is in response to Trail of Tears (2005), a painting by Benny Andrews (1930-2006). Trials and Tears connects dark chapters of American history: the forced resettling of Indigenous people and the trials that have resulted in incarceration of minorities. Sacajawea: Women of Many Names sets out to show Sacajawea, as performed by mezzo-soprano Kate Morton (Cherokee), from the perspective of her Shoshone ancestral traditions, unfettered from Western mythologies about her life and motivations. Both pieces are by Dawn Avery, a Grammy-nominated cellist-composer of Mohawk descent. Danielle Olana Jagelski (Oneida Nation of Wisconsin and Red Cliff Band of Ojibwe) serves as music director.

Lecture | Princeton Archeologist Discusses the Traveling Craftsmen of Ancient Greece

The designs of Greek temples, with their recognizable Doric and Ionic columns, spread widely in the ancient Mediterranean and Black Sea in the 6th and 5th centuries BCE. The dissemination of these architectural forms depended on highly mobile stone masons, who cross-pollinated design ideas as they worked far from home. Sam Holzman- Assistant Professor of Art & Archaeology at Princeton University- presents a talk that surveys a range of evidence for the mobility of ancient builders, from inscribed records to new lead-isotope analysis.
