Opening Reception | The Journey: Paintings by a Former Olympic Athlete

Mark Anthony Hill's vision has been shaped by his life's singular journey and does not see himself through the perception of others. Hill's painting career was first inspired during early education years in Montego Bay, Jamaica. He went on to produce public murals and paintings for his home town. Yet, it was his sporting talent that won him a seat on the Jamaican bobsled team. November 2001, disaster struck while training in Norway for the upcoming 2002 Winter Olympics. A serious accident on the slopes caused Hill to suffer injuries to his face requiring massive amount of stitches and severe ice burns all over his body.

Hill credits his physical and creative journey to recovery from this incident was due to his psychological training as an athlete. In 2007, he retired from professional sports. In September 2017, Hill decided to return to painting with full force, determination and courage. To date, he has produced over two hundred new paintings.
