Concert | Folk Music: The Head and the Heart / Lost in the Trees

THE HEAD AND THE HEART is a band whose “name describes its sound perfectly—lyrics and music inspired by both intellect and emotion." (NPR) The six-piece came together in Seattle in the summer of 2009, and the speed with which it went from handing out burned copies of it’s self released debut in custom denim sleeves to selling out multi-thousand capacity venues across the country is a testament to the connection people find in its music. (photo: Shawn Brackbill) While everything about The Head and the Heart’s swelling vocal harmonies and driving acoustic stomps seems at the very center of the American roots revival, the “stunningly gorgeous” (LA Times) orchestral folk of LOST IN THE TREES represents the far left of the same movement. Both its 2010 debut Alone in an Empty House and this year’s stunning A Church That Fits Our Needs have mesmerized critics and fans alike with their expansive arrangements, taking listeners on sonic journeys that range from the pure melodies of American folk and pop to symphonic sound exploration.

Theater | Outdoor Presentation of Shakespeare's The Merry Wives of Windsor

The play is presented in a working parking lot, so you can drive there but you should expect to pay the Muni-meter. The show is offered while the lot is in use. The action sometimes happens around a parked car which drives away during a performance. At such times, the players stop and the audience moves its chairs, pausing the performance the same way a show would stop for rain uptown in Central Park. It's all part of the fun. Seats are available on a first come first serve basis, with audience members often arriving as early as 7:00 PM to secure a place. You are encouraged and welcome to bring your own chair. Once seats are gone, blankets are spread out.
