Concert | Latin Alternative Music: Kinky / Los Auténticos Decadentes / 3Ball MTY / DJ Raff

Known for their energetic live shows, Kinky (pictured) is a Latin alternative group that draws from funk-rock as well as electronic dance music, resulting in a unique hybrid that has garnered them an international following. The five-piece band from Monterrey, Mexico released their self-titled debut, Kinky in 2002, which was met with critical acclaim. Los Auténticos Decadentes is one of the most famous bands in Argentina with a career that spans over thirty years. A mix of ska, carnival and rock with a strong Latin influence lends the group their famous party anthem sound. Comprised of Monterrey DJs Erick Rincón, Sheeqo Beat and DJ Otto, tribal guarachero group 3Ball MTY, specialize in club sounds that take inspiration from regional folk songs, electro-house sounds, and elements of cumbia and Afro-Cuban beats. The group’s debut album, Inténtalo, which was released in 2011, has created a buzz in the music scene by blending traditional northern Mexican styles with electro beats to produce a riveting new sound. Hailing from the far reaches of South America, Chile’s DJ Raff has helped to sow the seeds of what is now considered one of the biggest and most important hip-hop scenes in Latin America. His blend of creative sampling, beats, keyboard arrangements and scratching have earned him a place amongst Latin America’s most highly regarded and groundbreaking DJs and music producers, where he has made beats for many different artists and released his own solo material.

Concert | Saturday Night Fever, with a Set by Tragedy

The film that catapulted John Travolta to stardom and sent disco and the Gibb brothers into the stratosphere has some of the greatest dance scenes ever committed to celluloid, but it’s also a moving coming of age drama and a gritty, sometimes brutal portrait of blue collar Brooklyn in the 1970s. To mark SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER’s 35th anniversary, screen the original (rated R—not appropriate for a younger audience) and celebrate its legacy with a pre-film set by TRAGEDY, the Tri-State Area’s #1 heavy metal tribute to the Bee Gees.

Bleak! Comedy’s Mike and Yoni have a solid 30-mins of raucous sketch. There’s only one problem…they have NO DIRECTION! That’s where YOU come in. “Directed By…” is a monthly sketch show in which every month a new, random director is selected to present the show in any way they so please. The director will be hand-picked from a bucket of names submitted by audience members at the previous month’s show. After being selected, Mike and Yoni will present them with a show’s worth of fully written sketches, which the director will piece together and shape however they like. Which will hopefully create interesting and entirely unique sketch shows every month.

Theater | Outdoor Presentation of Shakespeare's The Merry Wives of Windsor

The play is presented in a working parking lot, so you can drive there but you should expect to pay the Muni-meter. The show is offered while the lot is in use. The action sometimes happens around a parked car which drives away during a performance. At such times, the players stop and the audience moves its chairs, pausing the performance the same way a show would stop for rain uptown in Central Park. It's all part of the fun. Seats are available on a first come first serve basis, with audience members often arriving as early as 7:00 PM to secure a place. You are encouraged and welcome to bring your own chair. Once seats are gone, blankets are spread out.
