Author Reading | Authors Leanne Shapton and Jason Fulford read from their latest works

Shapton, the author of the wonderful Was She Pretty?, returns with Native Trees of Canada. In a used bookstore in Toronto, she came across a 1956 edition of a government reference book of the same name. Seeing beauty in the technical details, she was inspired to create her own interpretation. The result is a beautiful, whimsical, and charming book, full of shapes and colors and wit. Similarly, Fulford was given a box of snapshots of mushrooms that a friend found at a flea market. The images stuck in his mind, and became the genesis of The Mushroom Collector, a striking project—and book—that combines the flea market photos with original photographs and text by the artist.
