A book signing and party with the artist. This special event will honor one of America’s contemporary masters whose work, a very personal investigation of the American South, has been described by Walker Evans as “perfect little poems.” Although best known for his large-format color photographs made with vintage Kodak Brownie cameras, Christenberry has also consistently produced work with 35 mm Kodachrome slide film ever since he took up photography. Kodachromes is the first publication to showcase this stunning and previously unknown body of work, spanning from 1964 to 2007, of which only a small number of images have ever been published or exhibited.

Discussion | ByProduct: On the Excess of Embedded Art Practices

ByProduct is a new book that assembles the commentaries of artists, activists, curators, and interdisciplinary thinkers on cultural projects "embedded" in industries, the government, and other non-art sectors. Situated deeply in such institutions — and incorporating their architecture, language and much else — these projects produce meaning contingent on their host, becoming a "byproduct" of their existence. Whether the works are explicitly polemical, indirectly critical or instrumentalized by the host institutions is up for debate, and evokes old and new questions around political efficacy, and tactical media. Roundtable participants: L.M. Bogad, performance artist and author of Electoral Guerilla Theatre; Tom Finkelpearl, Executive Director, Queens Museum of Art and author of Dialogues in Public Art; Michelle Jacques, Curator, Art Gallery of Ontario; Marisa Jahn, artist, editor of Byproduct; Joseph del Pesco, independent curator. Followed by a book signing with contributors: Andy Bichlbaum, The Yes Men; Maureen Connor, artist; Kent Hansen, democratic innovation; Geoff Lowe and Jacqueline Riva, A Constructed World; Kristin Lucas, artist; Darren O'Donnell, Mammalian Diving Reflex; Felicity Tayler, artist, writer, and information professional.
