Dance Performance | Choreographers Courtney Cooke and Burr Johnson

Interwoven like lace, Cooke's Trim and Notions lives alongside an intricate musical arrangement, and delicate attire and practices an embodied duality of maintenance and continuity. The viewer is a witness to experiential liminality, where moments occur somewhere between past, present, and future. The audience has the space to believe certain images and motifs belong to the performers’ reality or fantasy through lucid depictions and manifestations of an imagined yet accessible realm. Johnson presents Towards the Strength of Following, a patterned dance combining opposites: old and new, secular and religious, other and self. Performances are followed by discussions and informal receptions allowing both artists and audiences a greater perspective on the other's viewpoint.
