String quartet Brooklyn Rider joins with Kinan Azmeh, Syrian clarinetist from Yo-Yo Ma’s Silk Road Ensemble, for the debut of an exciting new project. New works by the quartet’s violinist, Colin Jacobsen, and Azmeh share the program along with a variety of traditional and folk-inspired music.

Brooklyn Rider is a string quartet mainly known for playing unusual and contemporary repertoire, and for collaborating with musicians from outside the classical music sphere. Past performances have included evenings at the Schwartz Center (Atlanta, Georgia), the Kimmel Center, the Cologne Philharmonie, American Academy in Rome, Spoleto Festival USA, and Malmö Festival in Sweden. In 2010, the quartet was invited to play at the SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas, which was also broadcast live on NPR. Brooklyn Rider made their Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall debuts in 2011.

Clarinetist Kinan Azmeh has appeared as soloist with the New York Philharmonic, the Seattle Symphony, the Bavarian Radio Orchestra, the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, the Qatar Philharmonic and the Syrian Symphony Orchestra among others.; and has shared the stage with Yo-Yo Ma, Marcel Khalife, Aynur, Daniel Barenboim and Jivan Gasparian. Notable appearances include: Opera Bastille, Paris; Tchaikovsky Grand Hall, Moscow; Carnegie Hall and the UN’s general assembly, New York; the Royal Albert hall, London among others.
