Festival | WWI History Weekend


The World War I Centennial Committee for New York City presents this two-day event to honor the centennial of the U.S. entry into World War One in 1917. Come see dozens of reenactors in vintage uniforms, both men and women, and learn the history of the Great War. There will be vintage Army vehicles, ambulances, equipment displays, a tent encampment, author talks, and demonstrations. Meet General John J. Pershing and the Ebony Doughboys reenactors who represent the famous Harlem Hellfighters regiment. Talks and lectures included. The event is open to all ages, kids and families welcome.

City Walk | Triboro-to-Queensboro Walk


A moderate-paced 12-mile hike along the East River, with great views of the river, bridges, islands and various landmarks. Walk up the East River Greenway, across the Ward's Island Bridge, across the Triboro Bridge to Astoria, along the East River parks and then across the Queensboro Bridge back to Manhattan. The walk will take about 6 hours; there are numerous drop off points once we reach Astoria, which will be about 4 miles and two hours into the walk. Please bring snacks, lunch and drink. We will stop at a deli after crossing the Triboro before we eat lunch in Astoria Park but the deli can be quite slow preparing lots of sandwiches so if you can carry what you eat and limit what you get at the deli to drinks and prepared foods that will make the day go faster.

Workshop | Make Your Mark: A Landscape Painting Workshop


Andrea Cuckier will introduce the participants to the notion of frame, composition elements, atmosphere, and graphic aspects of painting. After giving basic guidelines and a brief demo, she will guide the group to a spot where you will each create your own work. No previous experience is necessary. All art supplies will be provided but please bring a few household supplies: 2-3 large yogurt containers (or other recycled plastic containers), 2-3 flat plastic surfaces such as plastic lid/covers from yogurt or humus containers, plastic trays or tupperware tops, and a blanket to sit on. Andrea Cukier is a New York-based visual artist from Argentina who’s work focuses on nature, and her love for its conservation. Cukier holds a degree of Profesora Superior de Pintura, from Argentina and her paintings have been part of several juried and invitational group as well as solo shows at prestigious venues .

Cassils is an artist who is listed by the Huffington Post as "one of ten transgender artists changing the landscape of contemporary art." The exhibition includes monuments made from precious metals and bodily waste, visceral sound and video installations, photographs and live performance. The centerpiece is PISSED, a minimalist structure containing 200 gallons of urine: a collection of all the liquid the artist has passed since the Trump administration rescinded an Obama-era executive order allowing transgender students to use the bathroom matching their chosen gender identities.

Renowned organist Elena Sartori offers a mixed program of Italian and other European masters on the fine Holtkamp organ at James Memorial Chapel at Union Theological Seminary. Sartori was born in Ravenna, Italy and studied at the Musik Akadamie Basil, the Hochschule Mozarteum Salzburg, and the Internationale Bachakademie Stuttgart. She collaborates as both organist and conductor at the Ravenna Festival, MITO Settembre Musica di Torino, Sagra Malatestiana di Rimini, Teatro del Vascello in Rome, Accademia Musicale di Firenze, and many other European festivals. Her performances are regularly broadcast on BBC, RAI Radio, RAI 5, Radio France, and ZDF.
