Festival | A Celebration of the Indigenous Caribbean and Taino Roots


A day celebrating Taino art and culture! Activities will be led by Higuayagua Taino luku Kairi, a tribal group/organization dedicated to research and the dissemination of Caribbean indigenous cultures. The group will share engaging activities throughout the day with a focus on language, dance, material culture, spirituality, and storytelling. This day of community and celebration will culminate with a performance by Higuayagua and a concert featuring Arturo O'Farrill and the Afro Latin Jazz Ensemble. This special edition of the Afro Latin Jazz Ensemble will feature artists with Taino roots and explores questions of indigenous identity and history. Connections between the indigenous people of Boriquen, Quisqueya, and Cuba will be illustrated musically. Art making activities and gallery tours of the exhibition Something Beautiful: Reframing La Coleccion will be led by educators throughout the day.
