Screening | Maestro: Searching for the Last Music (2016): Documentary, A Quest for Music Composed in WWII Camps (virtual, streaming for 24 hours)

In a small town in southern Italy, a quiet but determined hero has brought to life an entire history of forgotten music. For more than 20 years, pianist Francesco Lotoro has scoured Europe to discover and record music composed secretly in World War II camps. Aided by his wife and a handful of friends, he has archived over 4,000 scores, including symphonies, operas, folk songs, liturgical works, and also swing and gypsy music. From Prague to Krakow, from Rome to Paris, this is the astonishing story of a race against oblivion, where each note sounds like a challenge to the oppressor. The streaming is available until May 16th.

When is a play about a boxer not really about boxing? When it's the 2016 Obie and Drama Desk Award-winning The Royale! The play is about the life of the outsider in America as much as it is about charismatic African-American boxer Jay "The Sport" Jackson. The stylized and stunning conception of Marco Ramirez was realized by director Rachel Chavkin. The streaming is available through May 16th.

Concert | Sea Chanteys and Maritime Music (virtual)

Old-time sailors on long voyages spent months living together in close quarters with no outside entertainment, no new people to interact with, a monotonous diet, and each day pretty much just like the day before. Sound familiar? How did they keep their spirits up? Singing together! Work songs and fun songs, story songs and nonsense songs, songs of nostalgia and songs of up-to-the-moment news - all were part of the repertoire onboard. Performed by the members of the New York Packet and friends.

Tour | Monet's Giverny - A Home and Garden (virtual)

Claude Monet lived and painted in Giverny from 1883 to his death in 1926. He purchased a house and property and began a vast landscaping project which included lily ponds that would become the subjects of his best-known works. He began painting the water lilies in 1899, first in vertical views with a Japanese bridge as a central feature and later in the series of large-scale paintings that was to occupy him continuously for the next 20 years. Monet gained much of his inspiration from his gardens and believed it was important to surround himself with nature and paint outdoors.
