"You got to try to live your own life," Arzu, one of the football players from the Turkish-Kreuzberg girls' team Agri Spor, demanded in a 1995 film by Aysun Bademsoy. Today, she is in her late forties and leads her own life, like her former teammates Turkan, Nalan and Nazan. Bademsoy visited the four of them for the fourth time, following their lives, recalling their visions for the future from back then. And this time she also talked to their daughters, some of whom on the brink of adulthood, who also think about adaptation, tradition, religion and culture. Opera | Le Voci dello Stretto: Fantastical, Italian One-Act Opera


Synopsis: On a beautiful spring day, a falcon named Pellegrino flies happily over the Strait of Messina at dawn and sees a colorful bridge connecting the two shores. After a few seconds, the bridge suddenly disappears. Pellegrino decides to investigate and turns to the mermaids, who do not believe him but advise him to ask the inhabitants of the strait. The falcon first meets Scylla, the six-headed monster who terrorizes sailors crossing the two shores of the strait, then Charybdis, who causes the whirlpools and currents of this beautiful stretch of sea, and finally Colapesce, a boy who has become half man and half fish and supports on his shoulder the column that holds up the city of Messina. Music by Roberto Scarcella Perino. Libretto by Eugenio Refini. Performed in Italian by Suchan Kim, Emma Marhefka, Anna Maria Vacca, Bernard Holcomb.
